View Full Version : Mila's foal -- Day 2

We made it through the night and we're doing much better: finally got the hang of balancing on those long legs and latching onto a nipple at the same time.

I'm a little worried about the weather today. It was hot yesterday, and we're supposed to have record highs (for May) for the next two days -- the highs may top 100 degrees both days. I hope the heat isn't too much for his newborn system, but there isn't much I can do about the weather.

Tentative name : Milagra's Céfiro de Oro

Céfiro is Spanish for Zephyr -- a gentle west wind -- which I think is appropriate given his paternal lines. :) Barn name would be Zephyr or Zeph for short

How does that sound?

(P.S. -- The last photo here is for you, Carol, so we can compare cute little tails.)

So happy to hear Mila's colt is doing fine!:D I thought about you all last night and today.

The name is very nice and he is so cute and has a very pretty tail! A lot of white in it...maybe it will frosted? I couldn't tell if he has the frosting in his mane like Mila but I thought I saw some white mixed into it.

Adorable colt! I know you wanted a filly but he sure is nice! I bet you will learn to love him.......

The temps sound awful but it seems it is better to have heat like that than bitter cold....after all he came from a very warm place!;)

The "Baby Daddy" is very proud of his nice little colt!:jump:

He has white in his mane and his tail right now . . . but I've been assuming it's just part of his foal coat and will eventually go away. On the other hand, I guess I haven't been assuming his white feet and star will go away -- so I don't know. Have I mentioned that equine color genetics still confuses the heck out of me? ;)

I AM sure he will change a lot over the next year. Right now his coat is really bright/light -- but chances are, as it darkens, it will show "sooty" to at least some degree, since both Mila and Frost have that. So far, even his skin is pink, but that will darken as he gets older, too, right?

All I know for sure is that he's CUTE.

Wow, what a handsome little devil. He certainly is cute. If you ever get tired of him. Send him over here. LOL.

Oh he is soooo cute! I LOVE buckskins - wonder why - just because we have three???

I haven't read any information on how the sooty gene or genes are inherited or the color intensity controlling genes for that matter. So we're all in the dark on that one:biggrin:

Boy, I am glad to hear he finally got all the parts coordinated!! He is a doll. Love the two of them at the hay. She is a good mom, isn't she?
