That is truly amazing! WOW! One thing I notice about his gait is that his rear legs reach the vertical at the back of the stride. So many fino horses I've seen particularly within the last couple of years never reach that point and it worries me that this is stressful to the rear legs. They stop their backward motion before they reach the point where the back legs line up with the butt. And in fact some of them stop at a rather severe angle. The older fino horses that I see in demos at shows don't seem to do this. Just some of the ones I've seen in the most recent shows. So this keeps their weight on angled rear legs all the time. There is never that vertical rest point that most horses have during a stride. I guess we'll see in a few years if this is indeed a problem.

From the photos I've seen of the trocha horses they seem to be a bit larger and more muscular than the typical show paso fino. Is this typical or perhaps just the individuals I saw?? And do the trocha galope horses come from the same breeding stock as just the trocha horses or are they from different lines?

Yes they are definetly sturdier and bigger. Some have HUGE necks, Arafat for example. The Pure trocha horses are usually bred to other pure trochadors, as for the trocha galopes they are bred to trote galopes and trocha and trocha galopes. They just see what they get. I don't know how mixed they are in Colombia, but here they mix trocha and trote y galope.

Wow, indeed. I've not seen one of them in person, so watching that video was something else!

Bridgette, or anyone, have you ridden one? That one looked quite smooth to ride. And do they all concuss so hard? Do they trail ride them?

I have ridden Trocha and Trote Y galope horses but never a Trocha y galope. Most are very smooth, but you do have some that have a rough trocha. They are used alot for trailrides and cabalgatas, many people prefer taking trocha or trote y galope horse over paso finos for cabalgata. I love them trochadors, they feel so powereful under saddle. Most trocha horses do concuss hard. I remember a cabalgata where one actually sent sparks flying on asphalt, pretty cool
