In a mini rescue/hurricane preparedness clinic?

I undserstand the price if gas is high, what price do you put on life?

The time is drawing near, hurricane season begins June 1st.

If I can get 10 people to commit, I will happily do this at no charge.

We can do a pot luck covered dish if you want.

The sooner the better. PLease step up to the plate, car pool if you have to but please help me start this somehow.

I want to help people.

If you are interested let me know here or pm.

I think that's an awesome idea, too bad you're not closer!

But maybe set up an online chat or something to do it that way?

Leila,

Do you have a tentative date and location? I might be able to get a small group to come down

Sounds interesting, you can probably count me in for it.

Give me your best dates with the exception of July 19th I am booked

Then we can come up with the most that match

Week of July 4th - 12th is bad - I think most anything else I could pull off - assuming it's on a weekend

I have dates that none can do this

In July 4-12 is out and the 19th is out.

This will be one day. Or if you have any other ideas let me know.

I am going to do something even if it is LOL wrong

Seriously folks this is something important to me and am hoping important to others as well

I can't promise you perfection but I can promise you I will do my best

I am thinking of an informal type thing so everyone can have input.

Bring along an idea or something to show or share. Any knowledge is worth something to someone

Even if we start small it could grow

What price would you pay to look like complete goofs in front of each other for the sake of an hour or so of fun?

Would you like spur-of-the-moment dance preparedness, to whip out and flex wherever you went and you heard the clave?

Passing time on a hardwood floor during your hurricaine?

Learn to dance Salsa, Cha-cha, swing, and more in just one crash-course to be held in conjunction with hurricaine day at Leila's!

Foot Ginger's Bill for one hotel and a tank of gas on the way down, and this, too, could be yours!

Just in time for Nationals! Nothing says sexy better than grinding around in front of a loud band while drunk off Andy Ackerman's margaritas!

Call Now, Now, Now!
(VolState Dance Challenge is the middle of July, so that's out for us, but since it's 1/4 of the way to FL, it could be worked with.)

Crystal that would be such fun and is a great idea. We just don't where we're going to be and Chinook's foal is due any time after the 12th of July.

If not before it would be great if we could do this during nationals on a slow day. Some days the show stops early and there really isn't a whole lot going on at night.

Leila, one thing that we need is a place further inland to move horses in case a really big storm threatens this are of the coast. Maybe we could add a sticky for farms inland in FL and GA who have some acreage and water access to sign on as a foster farm if some of us have to evacuate. We're high and dry but if a cat 5 comes into the area we'll still have to get out because of the winds since we're only 4 miles from the gulf.

A few years ago, the local Humane Society put on a clinic just like this. You may wish to contact them to see if they can provide additional information and/or want to participate. It was well worth the time and low cost (like $10 per person).

I recently participated "attended" in an online web/teleconference. The cost was $4 per person to call in, and it was coordinated with a powerpoint presentation which was uploaded online for participants to follow along and discuss via phone. It was a first for this group, but with high travel costs... it allowed those participating to ask questions and get verbal real time feedback. It was deemed a success! It was sugested next time to have online video clips to click on and view as per relevant discussions.

MG: would be wonderful at Nationals just not sure I could afford to make it this year. I can see what I can do. I have camped out in our van before could do it again.

As I mentioned before I want to do lots of sharing, not just one person doing all the talking.

I understand most folks, with the way gas is do not want to or can't afford to make an extra trip just to sit around and talk unless YOU/I have a name or certification behind me. I have attended and been certified through SART and LART. I am presently working on becoming certified through FEMA as well as Incident Command certified. Not sure if that matters to anyone.

But the thing is we have to start somewhere. This is important to me but I can't do it without others.

We ALL need to put our heads together and help each other.

Motorgypsy I am working on places as we speak to evacuate horses to.

I have already had people offer thier property for use.

My goal has always been to help others in any way I can.

Some folks have the funding to help others at thier disposal.

SO I decided instead of sitting back because I do not have the funding and do nothing. To see what I can do, what I can offer.

I realized I do have a few ideas. And Ellis and I help anyone can as long as we are able to.

Mostly this clinic is to help people help themselves so they do have the time to help others.

If I am not making sense then I apologize.:)

I am not good at that just yet. Althougth it is on my to do list of things to learn to help me help others

We've tented at nationals ourself. Not a lot of fun in the heat though. We usually give each other a trip to nationals as our anniversary present.

I put up a sticky to list the general areas people live who can take evacuating horse people, how many horses and what conditions needed or available so please add to the list when possible. We saw the remains of Homestead after Andrew and even though there is plenty of warning people just don't always listen or perhaps can't get out as happened during Katrina or Wilma. Hopefully people will listen after seeing just how bad it can get.

Any input is good. What may not be helpful to one may be useful to another.
