In a previous thread I posted in 'Horse Care' I explained that I was requesting information for long distance travel w/horse. I want to thank everyone for their helpfull information and their offers of support. This post is to update our current situation and to ask again for information and/or help.
WE left Dallas at 6:30 pm on Feb.7 and it is now the 11th
we have not reached our destination, we are stranded in Rawlins Wyoming.
On the morning of the 9th we were traveling west bound on I 80 just south of Rawlins. We were making good time and expected to be in Spokane easly by 10pm. Storm, my 14yer old stallion had been a champ through it all and my concerns about him were finally easing. It was clear, cold and windy morning, traffic was not to bad and we were almost through the pass. We were driving in the slow lane doing 50-55mph letting the faster traffic pass to the left, then tradgedy struck. Without warning we were hit from behind by a pickup truck hauling a flat bed trailor. The first thing I remember thinking was Storm would never survive and as I felt the truck spin and start to roll I was looking out the window and saw the trailor going past the truck. Everything was a blurr. My friend and partner Will, was driving at the time and as the truck did its finale flip and landed on its side (passenger side) I realized he and I were fine, no injuries, not even a scatch as we found out later. The only thing I could think of was my beloved Storm was dead. No horse could survive what had just happened. As soon as Will knew I was alright He started to try to get out of the truck I was sreaming at him to go see about storm. I couldent get my seat belt undone. He climbed out and I waited to hear the bad news, I heard Will yelling "he's alright! he's alright!" I finally was able to get the belt undone and get out , when I finally saw Storm he was standing calmly in the mediam not a mark on him. once I knew he was alright I looked for the trailor, it was so mangled and torn up I had to look again to make sure Storm was really alright. It is a miracal we survived and people who saw the wreckage are amazed. NO INJURIES!!!!! The truck and trailor are totaled and we have no way home...Insurance companies wont do anything untiell they get a police report and that takes ten days in Wyoming. Storm is being borded at the vets and we are staying in the Days Inn. If there is any one in the Rawlins area who may read this post who may be able to help us in any way get home please call us at 307-324-6615 room#228Also, If any one out there saw the accident we desperatly need witnesses.

She's still at the motel and Storm is still under very good care at the Vets. It seems the kind folks of Rawlins were able to track down who the hit and run driver was, so at least that piece of the puzzle is complete.

She said she's gotten a few phone calls but unfortunately they couldn't help her due to her location and where she needs to go (Spokane).

She wanted to thank everyone who is praying for her and wants all to know they are safe and well (including Storm), but can't wait to get home, which won't happen until Storm gets a ride because she's not leaving town without him.

I hope noone mines me crossposting this. I hope someone can help them.

I wish I could help, but working full-time kind of gets in the way. It's about 6 hours to Rawlins for me, then another 14 to Spokane from there.

Grand Champion Transport is located in Kallispell, MT. They shipped Listo for me to Missouri. They might have something going that way....

What an awful thing to happen, and yes, I'd be sleeping with my horse, if I had to(yes, I've camped out at a vet hospital before....)Then again, for all to have survived that, is also amazing. I'm SO glad they tracked that other driver down, too. prayers...

Holy cow - they were all very blessed and lucky. It infuriates me how people drive when you are towing a trailer....A few times I've had sports type cars pull out right in front of me, because they don't want to be behind a horse trailer. IDIOTS....

I would guess they ran because they were drinking or on drugs and did not want to be blood tested after the accident. I mean, how else can you run into a horse trailer in the slow lane?? You'd have to not be paying attention.

This is why I hate driving on freeways with all the traffic. People are such idiots and so inconsiderate about trailers. When we drive over to Mile High on the same road, I drive a safe following distance behind the trailer and don't let people crowd my horses!

An 82 year old scientist I used to work with was killed at the University just before Christmas by a hit-and-run driver. They still don't know who did it, although a Home Depot security camera got the truck and driver on video, it wasn't enough detail to be recognized.

As this earth gets more and more crowded, people will have less and less regard for other's lives.

I had found someone who might have been able to haul Sandys Storm for her so I called to give her the number. She is very gratefull to everyone for their prayers. She said that Will is on a bus headed for a family members home to pick up a truck and trailer. He should be back on Thursday and then they will all be on their way home. She gave me her email address so I can email her later and see how the rest of the trip home went.

I am so glad to hear that this has a happy ending.
