I was reading your website and didn't see any pictures of dun ears. If you copy this and blow it up and cut the ears (Hope Darlene won't mind!) you can clearly see the stripes. The tip is black, then a cream stripe, then a black stripe, then cream again. All three of our duns from Vanidosa's line have the stripes on the ears. SloughP, our Cracker horse, isn't as obvious in his markings as the lighter duns. Our stallion, Magnifico de Besilu's ears practically glow in the dark the light stripes are so pale in comparison to his very dark face. He has cobwebbing also but it doesn't show well in his winter coat which he has in this picture.

Notice just how light the hair is inside his ears. They were trimmed for the previous picture but here they are long for winter protection. This picture was at 3 am during an ice storm when he wanted to stay out. He had on a big blanket but his mane and forelock were one large icicle.

Did someone say something about ears? How do ya like these? They belong to Pershing's Samule Adams, a mule I used to own. He was a weanling in these photos. He jumped over the gate right after the second picture was taken. We had to build it up to 5 1/2' before he stayed in. Can you imagine a 3 month old Paso doing that?

So, here's my dun boy with the 'grey' gene starting to get expressed. The ears still look "normal."

Thanks... for the pics and info.
I'll save some of those ear pics. My dun mare Maja has the light ear tips, but haven't seen any striped ones. The dark rimmed ears can also be seen on bays, so not distinctly a dun thing.

Our buckskin and bay have the dark rimmed ears. We board with a red dun tobiano pinto and she also has the striped ears. Sultan's are the most obvious. I'll try to get some specific ear shots of grandma, granson and grea grandson striped ears!

Storm is the second horse (dun) I've seen with light tipped ears. Isn't that unusual?

I don't think I've seen any duns with light tips. Does he have stripe on his ears? Perhaps the stripes can start dark or light??? I'll have to look at SloughP's ears because his dun markings are not as pronounced as our paso fino duns.

That is pretty cool that my storm has white tips, guess I never thought about that not being normal, but then again I havent seen anyothers w/that either. 8-) . No stripes on his ears that I have seen. But white tips w/black a little down the sides.. I will try to find another pic that shows it better..

:D

This is the best close up pic i have of his ears front side..

U can see the black on the sides comes down just a bit... :D he is so cute! I love him.. But then again, he is mine and I should think that...lol

This is my 'infamous' best horse ever, Tina - the red dun who started my love of red duns. This horse was every dream I ever had, come true.

She had bright red ear tips - that I swear were even brighter when she was lookin' mean (at a slow cow, while cutting, while being passed in Western Pleasure...LOL).
