From the New Dilutions site:

One "new" dilution gene was discovered by ICHR (Champagne
Registry)president,Carolyn Shepard. Apparently coming from the dam of
Barlink Macho Man, this gene puts pink dots on the dark skin of horses with one copy of it. Horses with 2 copies look a lot like Champagne, and with one copy plus a cream gene they start out looking Cremello and end up looking Palomino.

Another "new" dilution gene has been identified in the Andalusian, Lusitano and Paso breeds. In these cases, horses with a single cream gene added look exactly like double cream dilutes. The first two dark-colored Anda-Lusi horses singled out as carriers were Chica R. & Bravio. Soon we'll have a list of Peruvian Pasos also thought to carry a similar, if not the same, gene. This gene is apparently recessive. We may know of homozygous "pearl" horses, now, which look nearly champagne.

We are tentatively calling this recessive dilution gene Pearl. Guindeleza
appears to have one Pearl and one Cream gene on a chestnut (red) base,
yielding this beautiful color.

We are also attempting to identify the *genetic* color of the Royal
Hanoverian Creams (see related button on web site for explanation).

I think I had a colt with this gene. I had emailed Phillip Sponeburg and he could not explain the strange colour on my colt Chris. He said it might be some strange form of the champaigne gene. Chris's dam is registered as a grey but she was born white. She has produced dun factors on every one of her foals. However her colt Chris was born looking like a cremello with bright blue eyes, but his skin was not pink. Then he darked to pallomino with a flaxen mane and tail. Then he changed to a lighter dirty white eggshell colour with a silver/ grey mane, tail, and points. He finally finished looking like a champaigne. Right down to the shimmering metalic coat colour, and light choclate points!

We always called him our changling! Until he was 4 years old he changed his coat colour every 6 months! He really did looked like a totally different horse.

What Echo said!!!

I really wonder about color genes, and "packages". Some one posted way back somewhere about a gal that is doing genetic study on dun genes and thinks there is more than one gene or a set of - like Wap genes.

I wonder about Bri. He has a mask, it shows in the summer when he is silvered out. He has feint leg barring on the hinds. But he is not a dun - he would not be black for one thing, and no dun stripe. He has a coontail. He also has "quarter spots" - dime to quarter sized spots that roans often get, and they do change in number and location year to year. He has mottled lips. Has he got some don "factors" and some app "factors? Who knows...
