STALLION SERVICE AUCTION COMING TO A CLOSE

The Stallion Service Auction will be coming to a close on MARCH 1. Check out the available
stallions on the PFHA web site at http://www.pfha.org/documents/pdf/SSA2005.pdf . Don’t miss out on
this opportunity to breed to an outstanding stallion for as little as half the standard breeding fee
and give yourself an opportunity to share in a purse that could exceed $25,000.00. The first bid,
accompanied with full payment, received in the Association offices and meeting the minimum bid
criteria will win the breeding to that stallion. The stallion owner and winning bidder each receive
a free nomination into the 2008 Breeders Sweepstakes by entering their foal, conceived in 2006,
that was sired by that stallion

FROM ROBBIE DAVIS, FUTURITY CHAIRMAN:

Why should I purchase a breeding through the PFHA Auction?

You receive a breeding for 1/2 the published price or $500 whichever is greater. You also receive a free nomination into the 2008 Breeder's Sweepstakes...prize money of over $33,000.

Why should I nominate my stallion?

Advertising for you stallion, offspring has chance to win money, 10% of prize money offspring earn is paid to the stallion owner

Why should I, the stallion owner, sell the PFHA Auction breeding?

All the stallion's offspring will be eligible for the Breeder's Sweepstakes..could earn the stallions owner money, makes offspring more valuable because they are eligible to win money (over $33, 000) Only the stallion's offspring whose breeding sells are eligible to compete.
How and when is the money awarded? The money is paid out in the 2008 Breeder's Sweepstakes

If I have a breeding to a stallion that had a breeding sold in the auction to someone else, can I participate in the Breeder's Sweepstakes class?

Yes, for a $200 nomination fee. How much did the person who bought the breeding through the auction save? They receive the breeding at a reduced cost (1/2 the published fee or $500 whichever is greater) and they receive a free nomination into the 2008 Breeder's Sweepstakes ($200).

NOTE FROM ROBBIE DAVIS: Email me at Elporvenir@aol.com if you have any questions.

Everything You Want to Know About the PFHA Stallion Auction
Part 1.

How do I get a copy of the Stallion Auction Book?
Call PFHA 813-719-7777or contact Robbie Davis, Futurity Committee Chair, 704-895-4071, email: elporvenir@aol.com

Why should I donate my stallion’s breeding?
To promote and enhance the prestige and profitability of your stallion and his offspring.
Through the Stallion Auction, you get advertising for your stallion. Through his offspring you get publicity and advertising in The Breeder’s Sweepstakes class. Overall, the stallion owner gets great national exposure and has the opportunity to win lots of money. With the new format, the Stallion Auction hopes to earn $40,000 in total prize money in the near future.

How much does it cost to enter my stallion?
Only $30, which covers the cost of ad which goes to the printing cost of the Stallion Auction book. Otherwise…nothing. You may donate one breeding per year. If your breeding sells, all your stallion’s offspring are eligible for the Breeder’s Sweepstakes classes.

What are the rewards for the stallion owner?
The rewards are promotion of your stallion through his offspring with prize money payback through his winning offspring. If the breeding is purchased through the Stallion Auction, the stallion owner also receives one Free nomination ($200 value) into the Breeder’s Sweepstakes class for any one of his stallion’s offspring.

How do your market your Breeder's Sweepstakes stallion?
You can promote that your stallion is nominated in all your stallion’s advertising throughout the year and that any of his offspring are eligible to compete in the Breeder’s Sweepstakes class. If your stallion’s offspring have won in the past in the Breeder’s Sweepstakes class, tell how much money they have won. The stallion owner could offer to sell another breeding to the mare owner, so then the buyer will have choice of which foal or sex to enter in the Breeder’s Sweepstakes classes.

Does having your stallion nominated help sell breedings?
Yes, your stallion will be listed in the stallion auction book with picture and description that you provide. These books are available as promotional material. Winning offspring will elevate the recognition of your stallion. The stallion owner may sell more breedings so the foals can enter the class, and then the prize pot will be bigger.

Where does the prize purse come from?
Purchased breedings, nomination fees make up the prize purse. 10% goes to administration fees and advertising the other 90% goes back into the prize pot.

For the owners of the offspring, what are typical winnings for a breeder's sweepstakes colt and filly?
The prize pot was around $5,000 several years ago. These classes typically have a payback of over $2,500 to the winner per class. With the new program guidelines, we want to increase the prize pot to be grander -- up towards $20,000 per class. over the next few years, and then increase from there.

Does your horse have to be qualified in another class at Nationals?
No

How much can the stallion owner win?
10% of the winnings of the stallion’s offspring (of $5,000 = $500 for example), and with multiple winners they can win more. A stallion owner may win more than the price of the breeding with multiple entries.

If I have a horse sired by a nominated stallion, but I didn't get the breeding from the breeder's sweepstakes auction, can my horse still participate?
If that stallion’s donated breeding has sold through the Stallion Auction, then all his offspring are eligible for the Breeder’s Sweepstakes. The offspring whose breeding were not purchased through the Stallion Service Auction must pay a nomination fee of $200. The stallion owner and the owner of the offspring who bought the breeding through the Stallion Service Auction do not pay a nomination fee.

Since my stallion was nominated and had a winning bid, am I entitled to enter one of my own foals in the futurity class?
If your stallion’s breeding sells through the Auction, then you have one free nomination in the Breeder’s Sweepstakes. You must still pay the normal National class entry fee.

Can a stallion owner sell more than one breeding in the Stallion Auction?
There is only one breeding per stallion offered each year on nominated stallions for the PFHA Stallion Auction.

How will the new guidelines affect the Stallion Auction and any offspring that might be eligible to enter?
The stallions that have donated breedings and have not sold will be listed in the Horse World. They will also be listed on the PFHA web site www.pfha.org. Ask the stallion owner if his donated breeding has sold, if not, go buy the breeding from PFHA. breedings will be available to mare owners until March 1st .

If it has not “sold” the prospective buyer should purchase the breeding through the Stallion Service Auction after the National Show as soon as possible. This will have three benefits to the buyer: 1) it ensures that his/her foal will be eligible for the Breeder’s Sweepstakes classes, 2) his/her foal is automatically nominated, and 3) he/she can purchase the breeding at half price. With the new program that allows the buyer to buy the breeding through the Stallion Service Auction until March 1st of the following year, there should be no reason for a prospective buyer interested in a specific stallion’s service to be concerned about his/her foal not being eligible. In essence, the buyer can take action to ensure the eligibility of his future foal.
Otherwise, the stallion owner must buy the breeding for $200 in order for ANY of the stallion's offspring to be eligible for the Breeders Sweepstakes. This “purchase” also entitles the stallion owner to a free nomination to the Breeders Sweepstakes classes.
