This was received in email, I've sent a reply asking for more information, but in the meantime, wanted to go ahead and post this.
Hi,
I recently rescued a pregnant paso fino mare from slaughter. I will not be able to keep her long term and am currently looking for assistance with placing her. According to recent vet examinations, she is about 5 plus month pregnant with what will be a pure paso foal. She has a negative Coggins, and a clear blood tests. Though there was nothing other than exposure the vet suspects that she may have had a spell of EPM sometime in her past which she says could possibly account for a bit of weakness she denotes in the mares left hind end. The vet suggests not treating her for EPM until she is done lactating the foal unless she displays signs prior to that time.
I already have 6 horses that I care for but my heart went out to her seeing as they were going to kill her plus the foal. I knew that I would not be able to keep her but I wanted to do something to help her survive. I will try my best to maintain her financially until she has the foal and is done lactating. after that I will need to place her as I have enough trouble sustaining my own horses in this economy.
I am looking for assistance placing her and her foal once it is born. the mare is extremely sweet and docile - she would make a lovely pasture mate. the vet believes that if she really ever had EPM at all it can be fully treated with one round of monthly medication (which I am happy to try to pay for if she is with me when the time comes). Right now I need help finding a home for her and the foal. I will not ask to be reimbursed at all & am happy to allow the agency that helps me place her keep the adoption fee (if they charge one) as a donation to their cause. Of course I would like to see them stay together as long as possible but will give them up to separate loving homes if need be. So right now I see myself as a foster parent who needs assistance placing them.
Please help me in anyway that you can - as this is my first time rescuing a horse (I don't know the different networks that may be available). Any information or direct assistance with placement will be greatly appreciated!
Best,
