Free 20+ yr old Paso Fino companion horse only. He foundered yrs ago and would make a great pasture mate. Loads, ties, clips, bathes and stands for farrier. Great manners. Needs weight badly. Free to a GREAT loving home.

I would go get him if only I could afford to bring him back form his emaciated state. I just don't have the $$$ to do it right now. I feel so bad, cause I would have the space, and all of the loving care he could ever want... Hope some one takes him, real soon....

I understand your position, but it's going to be a long time before this boy will be eating regular sized meals. He will need to be started out slow, small but frequent feedings, and confinement in a small space so he doesn't burn off all the calories you put in him. Actually it really isn't all that expensive to recover a starving horse if you know how to do it right.

Let's try to remember the rules folks, I had to edit/delete some posts.

I will get him added to the website asap. If any of you are members of the yahoo group, go post him there now so an email will go out! I'm at work and can't get in there.

Can someone please post this on the yahoo group? I wasn't able to get online last night and can't do it here from work.

What about a rescue service in Central Florida? They have helped us in the past when we've discovered horses in need of help. He needs to be rescued in the condition he's in and given special care. With our temps being down in the low 20's his life and others not healthy to withstand the cold are in peril.

They typically come and pick them up - let me see who is available to help.

I just emailed the owner with information regarding a horse rescue charity in Orlando. Hopefully they can help.

Jennifer from Sebring is going to get him. This is the same person that got Beary for her daughter from Deb's friend.

This is her post from flahorse, and if anyone can afford to donate to help her see below.

Thanks ladies. I have the arrangments confirmed that I will arrive there around 3:30 tomorrow. I am taking a warm blanket for the trailer ride back here, and will get hm a soft stall bedded tomorrow. I hope he is not too far gone already, the girls will not handle another loss real well.

I do not usually ask for help but for those who have offered we would greatly appreciate it. The move and the new drainfield that was completed today (gotta love those suprises) have made the finances run extremely low. Our paypal addy is: [email protected] and our mailing address is:

The horse has been rescued and is at Promise Acres. There is a thread on the Florida horse website, www.flahorse.com. His name is posted there (can't remember off the top of my head), and she is wondering if anyone knows the horse - he is a buckskin and is the name is something like Mercardio (???)

Yes, we picked up Mecardio on Friday afternoon. He is in pretty rough shape but is alert and spunky. We know no history on him. The story was she only had him a month but that changed a few times. She was ordered by Animal Control to place some of her horses. There were many in very poor shape. Mecardio must have been stunning when he was well cared for. Now he is very thin, you can feel all bone wherever you touch, he is of course full of parasites, and his hooves are in very bad condition. He has possibly foundered in the past. Our vet is coming Friday to evaluate him and bring him current on everything. Then we will set about getting his hooves and teeth done.

Thank you so much! You think she'd give you any info about where he came from?

She would not give me any info. :(

Here are some pics of him:

Man, what a bummer! There are no Mercadio's that I can find in the registry.

Good job on the 'Insta-Stall'... :) You just gave me a great idea for the 'medical stall' we're thinking about setting up under our carport.... something for those nights when you have to be with a horse, but it sure would be nice to have the comforts of the house close at hand... In another life maybe I'll have a heated barn that sprouts extra stalls minutes before I need them (cleaned by the invisible stall fairies) and an office/apartment for those late nights watching mares refusing to foal or a favorite horse with a bellyache....

Thanks guys. We just moved to this property at Thanksgiving and have not had time to get everything built and fenced yet. So it has been interesting! He is a real spunky fella and now takes off at a pretty good clip when it is his turn to go out.

Sandy - I want some of those stable fairies down here too!

I knew a horse by the name of Mikado that would be about this horse's age.

Mikado was foaled in 1989, & is a grey gelding. According to the PFHA website his owner of record is in Ohio.

It very well may not be him, but if the woman in Ohio had sold him at some time & his papers were never transfered, it is a possibility, as the names Mecardio & Mikado do sound a little similar.

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't see the post at first that indicated this horse is a buckskin.

The only photo I can see is the one in the first post & the horse looked grey to me in that photo.

I noticed today on the surrender form that she spelled his name Mercadio (I think I had spelled is Mecardio) so if someone can check and see if that name pops up anywhere I would appreciate it. :) I am waiting on our vet to get here. He is coming at 9 to evaluate him and pull his coggins and give his vx.

I can't find anything that age, even close to that name!

Mercurio
Mercado

Jenn - go to Pasoregistry.com
search for pedigree information

If you use the % (wildcard) before or after different versions of the spelling, it'll pull up a lot. You can then click on the name to get additional info.

Good luck, keep me posted on the vet. No new news on my Dixie girl, hoping she's home!

It would be better to search at tesiopower....pasoregistry is years behind in updates.
Better yet...just call PFHA and ask..takes but a minute or two.
