Hair turned white?

My dark brown boy phantom has all of a sudden gotten a patch of white hair, just above his back left hoof. see pics..

Doesnt look to be an injury at all, no marks besides the hair.? He is older and getting sparatic white around his muzzel and eyes but not here.. He is a pasure horse, I am thinkin he kicked something and hit the area hard and it killed the pigment?

I think your right he had something hit that area really hard and turned the hair white.
this happened to us to Moms gelding overnight we noticed a upside down looking horseshoe print on his shoulder that was white hair except the area in the middle that looked like the frog area. he is in a dry lot with another gelding and we think the gelding kicked him while he had his head down. looked like a perfect upside down hoof print of WHITE hair, never lost the hair and it wasnt their the day before, just popped up all the sudden. we asked our farrier and vet, and the both thought yeah sure they were sure the horse had had to lose the hair first then white hair grow in. weirdest thing. this was a couple of years ago and the first year he shedded the white hair out then it was back with the winter hair! now over a few years theirs just a small white hair there. I wouldnt have believed it either if I wouldnt have seen it and hadnt been checking our horses on a dialy basis. Sherry in MO
