Yesterday I notice Rio was having difficulty peeing. I cleaned bean from him. He was still acting a tad "punky" this morning (kinda sad). He is eating and drinking and peeing. But I was kinda worried about maybe a UTI. I took his temp. It was 101.1. I always thought a normal temp for a horse was 99-101? correct? should I worry about the .1? hmmmmm, poor boy. What should I do? I can see him out eating the remains of his hay now.

The bean removal should have helped greatly. If he is still acting funky in the morning call the vet.

My motto is "when in doubt the vet comes out"

Well, he seems okay. When I got back from church they were ALL sleeping. I think I'll keep an eye on him, take his temp again to night and in the morning. If it goes up or he stops eating or something I'll call the vet. He is eating, drinking, sleeping so I guess he is okay.

I once thought Novio had a UTI but when I called the vet he told me that UTIs are extremely rare in geldings, because the gelding's urethra is so long ( making it difficult for bacteria to "climb" such length).

I just saw him running around with Fetti, so I guess he is okay. His temp was down to 100.9 last night and I believe that is in the realm of normal for horses. Guess this is sheath cleaning week for everybody. YECK
