This is the West Nile vaccine we have given for two or more years so this is a surprise. The advantage is that it can be given only once a year.

There is one other that can be given yearly I think. I've used it also with no problems from any of the three on the market. Pretty scary.

I found one that Fort Dodge makes that is annual. It also has eastern/western & tetanus. I think I ordered it from Valley Vet.

That is the one 4 of my horses had a reaction to. Swollen necks with heat, and Favio was so sore he was carrying his head sideways. They were aso feeling a bit under the weather for several days.

Whoa...they are talking about "adverse reactons"...but later said, caused "anaphylaxis, colic, and death"....That's serious!

I called my vet to see what he used on the one horse of mine he gave vaccinations to this year and I was told he gave the Ft Dodge one...

I've been giving the Ft Dodge EWT+Tetanus+West Nile to my horses for 4 or so years without ever a problem. I usually buy the 10 dose vial for 10 horses. Just bought one vial yesterday....

In florida you are advised to give the Ft Dodge vaccine twice a year because the mosquito season lasts so long. I believe from what I read that the reaction from the Prevenile shot is immediate so if you gave the shot some times ago your horses are probably fine. West Nile is so terrible it's worth a mild reaction but this isn't mild. If you're not in a West Nile area it costs thousands to maintain a horse with it until they recover IF they recover. They need horse ICU with a respirator to survive a typical case.
