Hey - you guys rode the _flat_ trails... One of these days we'll arrive in time to ride with the group!

Greg - on Pete - and I - on Bronce did some off-roading on some 'narrow' single track... apparently we took a left turn off the main trail and the group went straight....

"How narrow was it?"
At one point Bronce had one front leg on the ground - took a step sideways and ended up resting on his 'elbow' on the bank to his left. This horse continues to amaze me - so intelligent, so willing, and goes blindly (literally) into anything I point him at! Never once had to dismount to get him over fallen trees a footand a half+ thick, but I _did_ get off and lead him down a 2-foot+ stairstep drop-off into the creek... miht make it next time still mounted, but why take a chance as he learns to trust me...

I am _really_ glad that I found a racing hood for him to wear to protect his eyes... from Zelco? Zilco? Nylon mesh with stainless steel mesh protective eye screens... intended to keep dirt clods from flying into racehorses' eyes. Riding 'unimproved' trails can get 'branchy' sometimes! We're thinking it wouldn't hurt to get Pete his own 'goggles! :)

All the trails we were on were nice and wide but we had some major hills to climb. Mels' old lady handled them as well as our young kids. One day you will show up on time and we can ride together. I think we will plan on an overnighter and the rest of us will show up on Sunday Morning to ride. We may still have to send someone early to make sure you are tacked up and ready to go. LOL

I had so much fun yesterday. It was great to get out and enjoy a very nice day with some really great people. Everyone was really good about slowing down a bit and stopping to let Lexi take a break and catch her breath after some of the more strenuous portions of the trail. I felt a bit bad, I knew that everyone probably wanted to move on a bit quicker but I appreciated their thoughtfulness for my older lady.
I did miss getting to ride with Sandy and Greg and the MGs - maybe next time!

The funny part was that Lexi never wanted to fall back or slow down. I had to hold her back on the last portion of the ride and make her walk so she would cool down a bit. She wanted to go fast like everyone else.

The best part is that she is fine today, eating like a pig and chasing Lady so I know that she didn't overdo things yesterday. I was a little worried about her.

Kevin went over to check on her at lunchtime today. Pretty funny since his first reaction to me going on the ride was "I can't believe that you are taking that fugly horse out in public." When I got home, all he cared about was making sure that she was comfortable and had some special treats for being such a trooper for me.

After all that she did yesterday, I think that she is the most gorgeous horse on the face of the earth.

I will post the pics I took when I get home tonight.

What a fun time you guys must have had! I have been sick and my trailbuddies have also been under the weather, so we have not had a chance to get out in the last couple of weeks...I am missing it bad!

Mel, I am so glad your girl had a wonderful time. These older horse can do pretty good against the younger ones! I am amazed at the endurance of this breed!

Sounds like a good group of riders, courtesy and willing to help others! That makes trail riding so nice, when others are considerate of special problems. (#1 in trail riding etiquette!)

More pictures would be nice! :D

Ya know...... you just schedule all these rides _way_ too far away... or maybe not far enough away to force us to be there overnight! ;-) Just make sure the next ride has overnight facilities and we'll be the first ones ready to ride! :rofl

Here are my pics - not as nice as Boyds, but I do like the one of Boyd and Two having a special moment...

I wish I had gotten a pic of the special moment they had back at the trailhead. ;-)

The cute little red dun is for sale. He was perfect for the whole ride - would make someone a nice trail horse, and he has a racing stripe for those of you who like that sort of thing.

OK, thanks. He had a filly from a stallion that I raised and used to own. Was just wondering if that was her.

Could be Cindy I am terrible about remembering things like that. I do not remember him saying anything about raising a filly though only that they had bought and training.
