This sign should say....Beware of the Paso Fino....you will be ruined for all other horses from the moment your butt hits the saddle. 8-)

Apparently, other breeds should also 'beware'. I'm sure most of you received this from Sarah today:
PRINCIPE HEREDERO DE ZR WINS BATTLE OF STALLIONS
Principe Heredero de ZR, owned by Lewis Haines of Troy, IL, and representing the Ozark Empire Region of the Paso Fino Horse Association, won the Battle of Stallions contest held as part of the Illinois Horse Fair, produced by the Horsemen's Council of Illinois, an affiliate chapter of the American Horse Council.
Principe, ridden by Rick Meyer of Troy, IL, took on a group of stallions of various breeds that included the Tennessee Walking Horse, the Saddlebred, the Arabian, the Quarter Horse and a variety of other breeds to win this competition. Entering the ring three at a time the stallions were judged on quality and audience appeal. After winning several heats the Paso Fino stallion was in the final heat with two Quarter Horses trained as reiners. After a performance that brought down the house Principe Heredero de ZR was crowned the winner of the Battle of the Stallions.
In addition to expert trainers and clinicians, the three-day all-breed expo and industry tradeshow presents 25 breed and sport demonstrations, Stallion Row and Parade, more than 120 horses in the Horses For Sale aisles, 140 equestrian vendors, more than 100 horse trailers on display for sale and a full schedule of educational seminars and workshops. At Horse Fair, more than 10,000 people share your passion for horses, and everyone understands the lure of the barn, the call of the trail, and the excitement of equestrian competition. From Quarter Horses to Morgans, Bashkir Curleys to Paso Finos, Andalusians to Reiners, and Belgians to Miniatures, you'll see more breeds and disciplines at Illinois Horse Fair than anywhere in the state.
10,000 people attend this event!! Wow, what exposure for the Paso Fino!!

That's pretty a cool prize for Rick to win. He is an outstanding stallion and really lights up the arena. Great.

Boy, I sure hope there are going to be pictures and a story about this somewhere...especially pictures!!
When you say he took off running, do you mean he ran a reining pattern, too?

Don - Shame on you for not getting us pix! *spank a hiney!
That is so cool that so many ppl saw an awesome horse.
I went to that IL State fair a few years ago, and I was very disapointed in the Paso demonstration. It just wasn't "breath taking". I am so glad that this demonstraion was something that caught everyones attention.
*Isn't it funny how a little gallop will thrill 8-)

Ok what would be breath taking? (searching for ideas for next years Expo :D )
I always try to actually keep it somewhat low key in the Expo (as in no super hot type horses) as I think it actually turns off the type of people that come to an all breed expo. This year we had fino, performance, pleasure and even had a 9 year old riding in the demo.Of course yes the big finish of a gallop across the arena always gets the crowd..it also proves our horses CAN do more than tippy toe... ;-)

My expo is coming up Mar 25-26th (keeping my fingers crossed that Listo heals 100% by then). Listo LOVES to gallop and I'm always taking him into this open field nearby and letting him GO! This usually makes for a nice leisurely ride after he gets it out of his system.
BUT.... with his cast just being removed on March 13th, I'm not sure we'd be up for a 'gallop across the arena'. Any other ideas to WOW the crowd - besides his beauty alone, that is ;-) :?:
PS - I did a search online last night and couldn't come up with much else on the story. Just a local newspaper write-up about the fair and Principe winning. No pics, though. I had to snag that one from his own web page.
