Please say a prayer for my Nakita kitty, she was struck and killed by a truck in the road in front of my house this afternoon... :( ...for some reason I called someone to take my place at work tonight and a half hour later there was a knock at my door. At least the man who hit her was kind enough to stop and move her from the road, and TELL me about it....he even took my blanket and went back and wrapped her in it after we both checked her to make sure she was gone...thankfully a very quick death.
She was eleven years old and a sweet girl..now she is with my Dobe Indy, they were always best buddies...
Now I know why I had to stay home..

I know having that man who hit her stop in and tell you about your kitty ...too was a godsend... he was a caring soul too to do that ........ I hate to see people's pets left dead in the road... only to be found much later........
sorry about the kitty. he lived a long life.

Oh Joy, I am so sorry for your kitty. I only met you once, but I could tell you are very tender hearted. At least you know where she is. It is so much better than looking for your cat for days on end and you cannot find them and always wonder if the were suffering someplace. I know you will miss her.

I am so very sorry, Joy. :(
On the keeping the cats in the house, I have two barn cats, Willy and Smokey, and they are my babies...everyone says they've never seen such friendly barn cats. They LOVE being outside and it would kill them to be confined...I know that any time they can be snatched up by a coyote (although they are pretty street smart) but that is the chance I (and they) have to take.
You do the best you can for them...but they have to have their freedom too. To a cat, freedom is pretty important.

Definitely in my prayers, and I'm sure it was very comforting to have had the man take the time to care -for the cat, AND her owner. I'm so very sorry, but glad you had her that long to enjoy and love her so much - THAT is apparent.

Thanks for all the kind words you guys, and I know your prayers are working.
I'm hoping my other cat won't be next...but I just can't keep them inside, they have never been 'indoor' cats and I wouldn't do that to them, no more than I would keep a horse in a stall all the time, or a dog tied to a tree....
Nakita did have a good life and I'm very grateful to that man. Lots of people would have just kept on driving.
Hugs to all of you for being so compassionate :hug .

I may be in your boat one day...
I have 11 cats right now, having lost two brothers over the last 6 months. 8 cats are permanant indoor cats, 1 is indoor/outdoor that I am desperately trying to convince to remain indoors and the final 2 are outdoor barn cats (recently feral, though I can pet one and the other is just now letting me pet her).
My 2 barn cats hang out at the back of the house, barn and down into the woods. My indoor/outdoor kitty was feral for at least 2 years before I trapped/spayed/tamed her and brought her indoors. It took 5 months outdoors before she'd let me touch her after she was spayed, now she is a lap-lover. She likes to go across the street and I am afraid I will find her in the road one day...though she does stop and check traffic and we won't let her out at am/pm during drive-to-work times.
We have a 6-sided dog kennel/crate made of thick wire that I have in the front yard and when we work in the driveway or garage I'll put several kitties in it to enjoy sunshine and fresh air, but other than the i/o we don't let them loose.
We lost our first cat to the road, so we try to keep them indoors. The barn cats began as feral barn cats, the i/o I'm trying...but I think it may be a while before she decides she wants to remain indoors permanantly.
I'm sorry about your loss of Nakita, but I am glad the man stopped to bring you to her. That was a kindness and I'm sure he feels just as bad as you do...animal lovers do not like hitting animals.

Poor kitty. I am so sorry. :hug
My kitty certainly loves his city life. He is a ppl cat and is not happy unless he is under your feet.

Joy, I'm very sorry...it's always hard to lose a beloved pet, no mater the reason. I am sure that in this case you are blaming yourself, but you can't. Roads are very unforgiving neighbors, and a very necessary part of life.
Cats really ARE happier outside, or inside/outside.
I have two barn cats and two house cats. I'm sure my outside cats live a much more interesting and stiumlating lives...they LOVE hunting, which my house cats don't get to enjoy.
These are decisions we live with. I will tell you the last barn cat I lost was 17...she way outlived all of the half-dozen indoor cats I had during the same years.

Joy, I am so sorry. At least your kitty had some "cat time" outside. I had a cat that lived for 21 years in my home. But, he was always looking to escape. Unfortunately, whenever he did escape it was to the woods where there were foxes, etc. and he would never have survived as he was declawed and even though he thought he was "bad" he really couldn't be. But that's another story. I would never declaw a cat again. He was definately an outdoor wanna be, but never was. I loved that cat (no one else did) but I always felt that he would have had a shorter but happier life if he could escape at will. Just couldn't let go. That man had compassion. Again, I am sorry for your loss. Sharon

I'm sorry for your loss Joy. It's always hard when we lose something or someone close to us, but I do believe we'll see them again someday. The person who stopped was kind and probably felt awful as well :-(

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. But as someone greatly stated before, you will see your friend again someday.
I have learned that everything EVERYTHING happens for a reason.God has a plan for everyone, including animals, so you can't fear, doubt, or regret anything, as long as you are walking in the name of the Lord.
Prayers are being said for you.
