View Full Version : Mojo does his part to save our school UPDATE! WOOT!!!!!!!

Yesterday, I made signs to remind townsfolk of the very important meeting about the fate of our school that was to be held last night. After I made the signs, I trailered Mojo to the town square and tied the signs to him.
We spent 3 1/2 hours walking up and down the street. (with breaks for hay & water) We got a lot of thumbs up and toots of support. After about the third hour, poor Mojo had had enough and started biting at me and whinnying a lot. We could not give up though, as it was 5:30 and a lot of people were coming home from work, so we stayed out another half hour.
When I went to the meeting that night I was told we were the talk of the town and a lot of people thanked me for drawing attention to the meeting. One woman told me the only reason she knew about the meeting was because she, "Saw it on the pony." :D :D

There is another meeting Sunday night, and 3 more after that, so Mojo and I are going to get our exercise. Now I just need to find some chain mail to protect my right arm from all his vicious nibbles. :eek:

Mojo is 2 and not trained to ride. The only thing he has had on his back is the sign. :D

Our little quiet farming community New Hill has been fighting the neighboring 4 "big" towns who want to put a 300 acre sewage treatment plant here near our crossroads since last summer...the fight is still on. Guess they didn't think we would last this long.
We've had community town hall meetings, marched on their city hall, protest marchs, bar-b-que bake sales and yard sale fundraisers........ so stay with the fight as long as it takes!

they make clear contact paper that you could cover the sign with.It comes in rolls where shelf covering is sold ( dollar stores, Wal Mart Lowes etc etc. It is VERY sticky so you might want some help peeling off the backing and applying it..

I wanted to post on this yesterday....that is a GREAT idea.
Wrap the sign in clear cling wrap or a clear plastic bag. The clingier the better so there aren't seems. I'd use several layers.

Ok, so I get this idea......I call the PTO, Bob's your uncle, Mojo and I have a photo op with the kiddies tomorrow at 1:00. Mojo will be wearing new signs to promote the meeting on Sunday night.
So, it's off to the dollar store I go, then to Wal-Mart for a new pair of jeans. Yipee!

Just got this email from the PTO. Looks like we won for now!

"I heard from the Troy Record tonight. Some of you may already know, but Senator Bruno will be making an announcement at 11:00am tomorrow (3.17.06) at the Grafton Elementary School. He is giving us $500,000 to keep our school open at least one more year. Come show your support if you can - all of your hard work has paid off.
Just remember - THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING! The fight is not over - all meetings are still on - we only bought ourselves a year.

Congratulations Barb and MOJO....too cool.
It is always better to at least TRY to 'fight city hall' then to stand by and grumble about it. I'm not sure why many people don't take action when things affect them. They recently widened the highway near our home. They were going to make a raised merdian where we had no access to the southbound lane...by getting involved and working with them, I got a lighted intersection, and also a speed up lane for me & horse trailer, and a wide lane for tractors on the side.
It's amazing what you can do when you're willing to try.
