Hey guys, just found out that Dry Creek trailhead is open for business. I will see if there is some way to get more information about the trails, but this is supposed to get you to the Pinhoti. There are also lots of woods roads to ride. We need to plan a trip - and this would be CLOSE for those of you who are in eastern AL and west Georgia. The trailhead is about 10 minutes out of Villanow.

Check it out - This pic is from the end of the PL - In the distance is where you would enter from and where the toilet and picnic table are located.

Su is off this weekend sounds like some inspecting to do. Do you have a map of where this is or directions.

I am working on it. I can get there, just not sure how to give directions!

Will post back as soon as I get something - or you can try contacting the Armuchee-Cohutta ranger district and see if they can tell you.

If you will travel up Highway 136 West from Calhoun to Lafayette you will cross the pinhoti. There is a parking area there on 136w.

Coming up I-75 from the south, which exit is the easiest way to get to GA136? I can't remember or tell from mapquest.

Exit west at Resaca, just north of Calhoun. You could also exit at Rocky Face , take 201 to 136 and then go east on 136. It is not far from I-75 either way. There are several people who are interested in this ride, I know. I am only about 30 miles away. Thanks for the welcome!

The 136 trailhead might be a better place - not as nice as Dry Creek, but has direct access to the pinhoti. Both are pretty close to one another. If you come in off I-75 and come to the 4 way stop in Villanow (there is an old store there) - you take a left and follow that road for some miles until you come to a FS road on the left. I can't remember the number tho - sorry. I know that you go some miles before you get to it, and it is one of the only FS roads off the main road. The trailhead is a few miles down the FS road. There are some forks off the road. Stay straight and you will get there - or stop at the fs work center in villanow, or the old country store and ask for directions.

It is called DRY CREEK.

Here is some trail info:

Boyd, do you remember when you came to the horse fair in Calhoun a couple of years ago? I was the one who arranged that. I have been a member of the Gapfha but I am not current now.

Mel

If you turn left at Villanow won't that take you to Snake Creek Gap near Resaca? Casey Horshoeing School is at Villanow isn't it?

Casey's is along 136 at Villanow, yes. I am not familiar with Snake Creek Gap though.

You guys aren't planning a ride less than 100 miles from us  ? I can't wait. I've been trying to drag Sandy to the Pinhoti for months but clear information has been hard to find. Is there a decent map available somewhere? I hear it's pretty rocky bewteen Dalton and Vilanow, but much nicer west from Vilanow towards Alabama. Looking forward to a ride soon.

I have a map of the Pinhoti (somewhere). I will try to find it. Also, there is a new stable near there if anyone is interested. They are having a St.Jude ride the first Saturday in April. I saw a notice at the CO-OP today.
