She was so rude to me yesterday!!

I was unsaddeling storm and phantom after some work in the arena, she was saddeling her big paint mare..

She was nice at first, asked what kind of saddle I had. That neat columbian was on storm.. I told her he was a pasofino..

Well then it started.....

She said "oh, one of those Kinds, I can tell he is with his flightyness (Spl?)

Storm was scare of her, he is of most people, nervouse..

I told her he was young and not used to many people, but that my 6yr old paso chico was a saint and was not flighty and very calm boy..

Then she proceeded to say how she hates there hoof steps how it is ugly and just annoying.. She said some paso people were on the trail ahead of them and went over a wood bridge, she said they were cloppping over that bridge like thunder and it bother'd her group. She thinks the flair of the Peruvian Paso's is apauling ect, that they are hot heads and no good on the trails..

I said the foot fall is amazing, they are so smooth. Enchanting horses w/some great qualities and are awesome on the trails. They can cover ground and are so enjoyable, not all have brio some are just as mellow as her numb paint (it didnt acutally say her paint was numb, but wanted to).. I tried to say how if she got to know more about paso's she'd realize how enjoyable they are and such great horses, but she jsut said: " well I have no intention of ever learning about those hot horses they are just too little for my liking...
I said I guess that will be her loss, since they are wonderful and my breed of choice...
I told her I wouldnt touch a trottin horse anymore because I like to enjoy my trail rides. Trottin to me is anoying and very unenjoyable.lol

I was kinda rude to her too..

So anyway, that was the 1st time I had someone be rude to me about paso's and not want to learn more about them...

03-13-2006, 04:22 PM

I've heard it all too it seems. Not quite that rude, but the comments.....

Anyway, not all of us "paint" people are rude ;-) Our Chex Amingo is a big overo bay paint. Even though he's bigger that Listo, I still feel more 'power' with Listo. Pasos may look small, but they have so much energy, stamina, and heart!!

I do love all my horses. Even my Peruvian Paso who is "appauling ect, that ... is a hot head and no good on the trails.." She is the best kids trail horse I could ask for :D

I have seen that attitude before...and it took all I could do to refrain from slapping them Barb. Closed mindedness really bugs me. I would have told her until she tried one, she really shouldn't make assumptions that she wouldn't like it.

well in a case like that the least you say the better..
"well I really like the people involved with the breed..Many paso owners own other breeds also and they are very openminded.Very little breedism or predjudice around.Unlike OTHER breeds and owners I have encountered"
Then walk away

I would have had to tell her how RUDE she is and that she really needs to work on her skills relating to people :!: And furthermore that we don't need such rude people in our breed :!: Your paso friend,Moniece

if ya knew her better, I'm sure you'd find personal insecurities in her life, usually from childhood. something as simple as parents spending too little quality time with kids can cause it.

03-13-2006, 05:23 PM
That is when you run over her and when shes down gait on top of her. then you get off and take a sharpie and inbig bold letters right Penco across her horse :D

I was a paint person (hence the screen name). Tell her you know of a paint person that thought the same, rode one, and is hooked for LIFE and won't go back!

I think thats EXACTLY what you should do. What ever she is doing...do it better.

Lori we need to take a couple of Fino horses from Miami up there so that lady can really get annoyed

Paso Finos work best on the sounding board :)

I would love to annoy her like that. And while I ride the fino horse, Pasofan can largo rings around her.

I used to have a 'friend' that did that to me, only she was talking to a group of well-to-do Paint horse people while I was standing right there. Hmmm...detecting a trend! It was one of the rudest things I have ever seen.
Some people are convinced that they have the best, and are too narrow minded to try anything else. That is ok...their loss. I love Paint horses...I have one...but won't ride her. Won't put down any breed especially in front of someone who obviously loves it. They are all beautiful in their own way.

Nito, why would you send her HORSE to the glue factory? The horse did not do anything wrong. Sending HER to the glue factory, now that might be an option.

Pasofan, and to all the younguns on here as well, the best way that I have found to deal with people like this is with pity. As Rueben said, there is most likely something in her life that has made her insecure. Also, real horse people appreciate ALL horses. All breeds might not be their cup of tea, but they still have a desire to learn about horses in general. This person is not a horse person and probably would not be a good Paso Fino owner anyway. Let me guess, her horse pretty much walks most everywhere and wouldn't have the sense to be afraid of anything therefore there is absolutely no way that it would ever spook thus providing her with a big animal that she can sit on and think she is a rider. The type of person with this attitude is usually not worth the time of day but sometimes, after a bit of time and learning, they will suprise you and open their minds. If they don't, just pretend they do not exist because it is not worth getting upset over.

OR, say something to her to the effect that, yea, Paso Finos are not for everyone. Only those who are real horse people and can handle a horse that actually thinks for itself. After all, it does benefit one to be smarter than their horse. But that you are glad that there are other types of horses out there as there, that way there are horses that are suitable for everyone. :D

Yes it did, It was born and it exists. :D

Sharpies, I'm serious, they solve all those little problems.

Next time, just act relieved and say, "Oh good, I was expecting you were gonna ask me to ride him and I just don't think you're quite ready."

tell that lady (and I use the term "lady" loosely!)...That I bred, raised & trained both AQHA & APHA horses for 17 years. When I rode a Paso...I was hooked on the smooth gait....BUT...when I found out the Paso Fino came in PINTO...I was thrilled....and began shopping for pinto Pasos.

To me, there is NUTHIN' better than a smooooth ridin' Pinto Paso! its the best of both worlds...gait AND Color!!

She just has NO IDEA of what she is missing...but then, there probably isn't room in her tiny narrow mind to comprehend that!!

When we were getting our paso finos certified as posse horses one of the QH riders complained that the sound of our horses' feet scared her horse. Our response - "And your point is?????" We're supposed to have horses who don't spook at anything and her's was afraid of horse hoofbeats???? Really funny!

We have "spooked" a few trail horses on rides too... the beat must sound mighty fishy to other horses... our Pasos have turned a few TB, AQHA, APHA and Andalusian heads!! We have gotten the really BIG EYE from a few of those other horses...

My Arabian always thinks there is a herd of horses at a full gallop coming up behind her when it's just out 2 pasos. She can't stand it, it makes her want to go faster. She feels rushed.

I remember when Candy was coming up on Princess when your mom and I were riding, I notices princess wanted to move fast then too..lol Too funny...

I was trail riding w/some paso's on a nice straight shot, we saw coming 3 peruvian paso's coming down, they were side by side and the sand was flying. That was so pretty to see, they wre so animated and moved beautifully. I just dont understand how people could say that looked bad.. oh well..

I sure love to hear those paso's comin!! :D

We love to go to allbreed shows and see all the beautiful horses. I always say "an old style Arabian is my most favorite horse to watch other people ride while I ride my paso fino!!" Our hunter/jumper/English people tend to be a bit snobbish too but they usually come around after we rave about how beautiful their horses are.

But there are many horse owners who don't love horses. They just ride big horses to boost their own small egos. What a pity!

Me too. Arabians are a work of art, and I love to watch Grayson ride Nisha. But no trotting for me thank you -- no matter how floaty it looks. I get my kicks from watching.

I have found the same thing with people who want to bash other breeds (my experiences are with Arabian and ASB folks). If I approach their breed with an open and appreciative mind, they usually do the same.

Now, it does sound like the woman about whom this thread was started was a little too far gone in rudeness to respond to that. And I am sure there are plenty of those out there. I would do my best to avoid having much conversation with her; she is not worth your time. My favorite way to respond to that kind of rudeness is to be as polite as possible and show her what she is NOT. "Well, they are certainly not for everyone! Have a good ride!" Of course, sometimes, I am not polite.
