Anyone want to share some information of this stallion? I've heard of him as a good breeding stallion but I believe he once did great in the show ring...

Can anyone share some stuff? I believe Marcia a forum member has him in her stalls.. Please share!

Over on pedigree...they were saying he hasn't produced much... might want to go there and read that. All I can say is he is fairly small in size.

I am happy to say that Ambar del Ocho is doing very well and is happy at his 2006 home - El Caron Farms in Alachua, Florida. He is still proudly owned by the King family. Jose Ochoa and I appreciate the trust and confidence they have in our operation and are grateful for the opportunity to offer him for stallion services this year.

In his younger years, Ambar was shown under saddle in Colombia. I don't know what his show record there was. I think he was also exhibited in bella forma.

While I have read other places that Ambar has a difficult disposition, I can personally say that I have seen absolutely no evidence of that. I check on him and Carmin nightly when I come in from work and Ambar always takes a carrot right out of my hand. My 13 year old niece and the 16 year old girl who lives across from the farm groom him daily and he looks much younger than his eighteen years.

The semen quality is good and he is breeding mares.

As for Ambar offspring, there are three mares in the US who have dominated in the amateur owner fino classes at nationals. They are:

1. Estampa -- owned by Davis Love III and shown successfully by Lexie Love.
2. Teoria de la Luisa -- owned by Bob and Sheila Spence. Not only has Teoria won numerous national and grand national championships, her value as a broodmare is now evident in her first offspring, Sheila's fino colt, Fairway's Feliciano who won AO fino colts at the 2005 National show.
3. Pokahantas -- the beautiful black Ambar daughter owned by Oscar Vasquez of North Carolina who was the 2005 National and Grand National champion AO fino mare. You may also remember her from the youth parade of flags. She was the one literally gaiting in place with 9 year old Jaimito Suarez. She also has proven herself as a broodmare. Has anyone seen the Capitan-Pokahantas fino colt that Alvin Perez of Hacienda Los Angeles rides?

There are other Ambar offspring that have done well too:
1. Alfredo and Mary Rizo-Patron have a wonderful mare from Ambar (I am sorry that I don't remember her name) that has always done well in the performance classes
2. Arlequin - the beautiful gray (white) stallion owned by Ruben Sierra. This horse is very fino but is gentle enough that a child can ride him.

I had an Ambar filly from my Patrimonio mare that I sold at twelve weeks to one of the best farms in Ocala. I have two more that we will start later this year and we are anxious to see what they can do.

I am sure there are others that I may not be aware of. I can tell you this ---

In the last four years, he has been carefully managed and selectively bred to some of the best mares in the country. In my mind, there is no doubt that Ambar is back. I think his crop of 3 year olds entering the show arena this year will confirm this statement. The Kings and I anxious to see these newcomers because we know that they will cement Ambar's reputation as an excellent breeding stallion and producer.

Feel free to call Jose Ochoa, Myra King, or me if you have any questions. The numbers and website addresses are below.

Oh, you will have fun there, Lori. And her trainer is kinda cute too.

Hey Marcia, I want a video too. Remember that black filly that you were watching me ride at Nationals a couple years ago and you were thinking that I might be able to join your exclusive club soon? Well, anyway, she just had an Ambar colt. Supposed to be a black filly, turned out it's a chestnut colt. Oh well. The best laid plans, huh.

I just talked with Myra King again and she is working on a video segment of Ambar that we will try to post tomorrow or Saturday. It includes Ambar as a 3 year old being shown under saddle with Don Fabio Ochoa doing the commentary.

I made need some help from some of you techincal whizzes but we are going to try and get it done!

Cindy,

Just so folks don't think I have some kind of special exclusive club, we need to let them know that you were talking about the "Involuntary Dismount Club" which requires a witnessed separation of horse and rider at an extremely embarassing moment when no less than 20-30 people are watching.

Out of my four 2004 Ambar babies, I have a black filly from a buckskin Patrimonio mare, a chestnut filly and colt, and a bay colt. Looks like a got your black filly. The one I sold was also black.

Oh, you had to go and tell. I like our little secrets.

That was our mistake. We should have bred a buckskin mare, not a black one, duh.

Can't wait for the video.

Where's the application to the club - I qualify! And it was extremely dumb because the horse was at a dead stop! Actually Kyle qualifies also. He did his infront of whole line of traffic and his horse was totally stopped also!!!

The white horse is Arlequin (son of Ambar). He was mentioned on Marcia's post on the first page of this thread.
