I need freshly done paso feet pictures.Last time was my first time with this farrier. He didn't leave much heel.Yesterday when he did them again I asked that we let the heels grow.High heels short toes.I know that much but I need to SEE pictures of different pasos that have had their feet just done so i'll beable to study them.I know each horse is different but I need see some. For some reason i've got a block going on and can't recall how the heels looked when they were done right.I want to work with this guy but I need to be better educated myself. Thanks!!You can email them to me if you like to save bandwidth for Lori.

Correct me if I am wrong people - but shouldn't they follow the natural line of the pastern?
We had problem with Monty getting stone bruises - exrays showed he had a thin sole and ordered to never remove heel -
Our son-in-law is a farrier - so I bought a series of 3 small books for him about confirmation of different breeds and how it affects footfall - I don't remember the nam eof them - sorry!

Monice...few Pasos have "high" heels....lets start with photos of your mare from knees to ground...and hocks to ground....perhaps she genetically does not have much heel... it is a Paso trait to show little heel.

YES....you trim according to bone alignment...and not anything else...if you want to keep a sound horse...

Take some pics for us....!

Correct. Every horse should be trimmed to its very own natural angles - those of the pasturns. A regular farrier should do fine BUT I do find some take off too much heel. Pasos need their heels. I tell mine not to trim less then 1" heel. It is especially important with horses that grow alot of toe, since they'll grow toe twice as fast as heel and really mess their angles up in no time. Long toes are invititations for stone bruises.

Monice..I have three to trim by Monday..all are different...two have heel, one has little heel..I'll try to remember to take some photos...maybe I should just walk around and take photos of all..as they won't all look alike as far as how much heel they naturally have. Every horse here has been without shoes probably since last August...so I have a bunch of unshod feet for the moment..... Maybe I can do one tonight IF my chiropractor O.K.'s it after my "Friday adjustment"!!!

Hey Monice....dontcha take PFH World magazine? Lots of nicely done feet in there...a few "oh my Gods" but for the most part...good ones...! ;-)
