He is here, he needs quite a few groceries, IMO, and I was 'under the impression' that he was a little taller than he 'really' is (can you imagine that??) He is a PPR gelding, will be 6 in July.....I am calling him
'Rico'..

Joy he looks good, I was scared , I thought he was gonna be bones.
mosty of is probably just that he needs mucle tone.

he has a nice thinkness to his legs.

how tall do you think his?

when and if we ever get to ride together, my Pillo and him will look great together.

He looks like he might be a little dehydrated from the trip. I bet in a couple days his weight won't look quite as bad to you.

Yep, hydrate him a little, put some more food in him, shed him out and I bet he is going to be quite the handsome horse. If that stride is any indication in the photos, he will move on out, too! :D
Take more photos in a couple days for us.

He almost looks like he could be heevy...how is his breathing? Congrats on the new horse..what is his story?

Yes, he looks dehydrated to me too...he is getting lots of hay and a very tiny bit of grain. Vet is coming in a couple weeks as I'm sure he needs his teeth floated...they have never been done and he is turning 6 in July.... The pics of him look better than he looks in real life!...he is not 'ribby' but he has NO muscle tone at all, and I can feel the bones of his 'rafter hips' very clearly. He has a HUGE stride, is long but very narrow, typical of many PPR's I guess although I didn't think he was from his pics...he has only had one home since he was a baby, and I think it's going to take some time for him to settle in here...I was told he had good ground manners and just needed 'miles' in the saddle, but right now I am not so sure this is an accurate description of him :-? .by what I have encountered so far, but I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and a few weeks to get used to his 'new' home. He has a puppy dog personality in his paddock...
Erin I sticked him at 13.3, and he has high withers.... I am thinking he MAY end up at 14 hands in time. I was under the impression he WAS 14h already..
Appy, his breathing is fine, I can't hear any wheeziness or anything...he vetted fine before I bought him.

I was just gonna post and ask if he had arrived! Congratulations. I'm sure everything will be fine. Let us know how he gaits when things settle down.

Appyday...did you make that comment because of the semi-horizontal line along his side?? I'm sure there is a more accurate term for it but my brain isn't working yet.....just curious

I love his color. Glad your boy is finally home. Can't wait to hear about your first ride on him. 8-)

Bronce was advertised as being 14.2........ he's 1/2" under 14 hands.... When I send pix to potential buuyers I always send one with a measuring stick showing actual height and tell them the point at the withers where I measure....

Advantages of short horses:
1. easier to saddle
2. easier to halter/bridle
3. easier to mount - especially on the trail after a potty break
4. much closer to the ground in case of inintentional dismount

I dont think he needs 'quite a few groceries' He is just not built 'round' I think like others said its mainly muscle tone ..

He's not THAT skinny. I like mine with a little extra "pudge" if ya know what I mean ;-) I definitely think with some weight, water, love and pampering he will be quite a looker. I think his color is just smashing. Good luck with him! I look forward to more pictures in the future...and the 13hh range is good! But you're right, he may get taller when he builds a topline. Looks like a really exciting project to undertake!

Thanks for all the nice comments on Rico :D , he is looking a little better now that he is getting 'rehydrated' after that long trailer ride..
He's such a love, likes to get attention and already he 'talks' to me when I come out of the house....I tell you what, he is going to have one heck of a LARGO on him....I am not going to try getting on him now though, gonna give him more time to get used to all the 'new' stuff in his life. He is very comical, tried to put his hind legs into the wheelbarrow when I was doing 'muffin' detail in his paddock... backed right up to the thing, it was very funny...I put a big 'beach ball' in his paddock and he was trying to step up on top of it :-? ..I will take some pics in a couple days...it's supposed to SNOW here tomorrow...talking 14 inches in the higher elevations  ...
Jodi, I'm pretty sure that's what Appy saw, that 'line' across his belly, I can't think of a name either ...my friend noticed it too, but I'm not sure what it is..?? I will have my vet check on it next week.

He likes to help with the chores...

He is looking better and is getting lots of hay...

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I do hope this new guy works out...he's still trying to figure out his new surroundings, and ME...
Vet said by next year he will be looking more filled out, but it's really hard for me to be patient, not one of my strong points...I'm going to take lots of 'before and after' pics in the meantime, and work on gaining his trust and building his confidence...but I'm no trainer so am hoping he catches on fast.. :-?

the first year is always a learning together year.

if you can make it through that first year, then you have a friend.

Joy...how is he doing????

Geez, I just can't get my act together lately, can't seem to find the time to visit my favorite place, this BB of course, and time is just flying by...thanks for asking about Rico, he has been here almost 2 months now. He is picking up some weight, but still to me he looks thin. He is beginning to trust me, but is still very suspicious of everything...I have some PP videos coming of the Seven Games and if I ever find the time I will start to play with him...he needs a lot of time, something I can't find these days..
I can only see weight gain in a couple places on him, and it is so hard for me to be patient about it! It seems like he is filling in from the ground up...his flanks are not so hollowed out as they were, only on the top by his hip bones is still sunk in, and the bottom of his neck looks better, but the top of his neck, especially right by his withers, is not shaped right. I don't know if this is just his conformation, or if it will improve in time with more weight and some exercise...???? It's all sunk in there. :-?
http://pasofyd.smugmug.com/photos/71253428-S.jpg

I had him all brushed and when I went in to get the camera he had rolled in the mud...which is EVERYWHERE with all the stinkin rain we've had...

I have gotten on him twice, just for a few minutes each time, he is not going to be ready for hubby for a while..

o Joy, sorry, the last thing you needed was another project.

That is the very same thing I told her! If only she would listen to me and move down here. We could put hubby on Tiny! Or I could make Joy get out the step ladder and put her on him......

He's looking good! That spot on his neck is from the high withers, it'll probably always look like that.

17.1 barefoot. Jazz is about 15.2 or 3 and he looks like a pony next to Tiny!
