Well ... I survived it ... I think.
Are you ready, ladies? Take a tape measure. Stretch out 6 inches and hold it up across your right boob -- outside edge to centre top. That's what I have for a scar!
Thank the Pope I have (had?) big boobs! Otherwise, I don't know WHAT I'd look like! They took out "a small orange" of breast tissue plus two "sentinel nodes". The sentinel nodes are what tell them if the big bad C has made it out of your breast and into your armpit (and from there to the rest of your body) or not.
MY SENTINEL NODES ARE CLEAR!
Translation: the WORST that can happen from here is that I might need a mastectomy. That I could live with. The MORE LIKELY scenario is that I'll need radiation (which ain't a picnic, but it ain't lethal either). And there's an outside chance that it's been contained within the "orange" and I'll need nothing.
Of course, you know who has the hardest time of radiation? Red heads and big booby broads. *sigh* I get all the breaks, eh? *grin*
Editing to add: thank you, one and all, for your good thoughts, your prayers and all that. I truly am blessed.

That is great news Jane! I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that it was contained and you'll have smooth sailing from here on out.
((((HUGS TO YOU)))) You ROCK!

Ha ha ha ha!
Woke up this morning (slept well lying on my left side with my right arm up on a stack of pillows) and feel pretty good. The arm is a little sore though. Getting the elbow up to shoulder height is a challenge.
So I pulled up my nightie to see what's what and right now my right nipple is facing the wrong direction! Instead of pointing in front of me, it's veering off to the right! *giggle. snort.* I sure hope that's only because of the swelling!
(Can I say "nipple" on a family forum? *grin*)

lol when you said It was facing the wrong direction, i thought maybe it became concave! lol
Oh it is great to hear that all is well!
God is ALWAYS with you, even when your nippy shimmies to the right... ;-)

A friend of mine had reconstuctive surgery after her opp, she said she didn't have much before she went in but now she loves what she has. She said they both look evenly porporshoned (sp) and are the same size now. lol
She brest feed her babies. And that made them lopsided. I can relate.
I'm glad everthing when well.

They say that breast feeding one's baby is good for the breasts -- that it helps AVOID breast cancer. But they've only been saying that for the last 15 or so years.
My son is coming 27 and I did NOT breast feed. (Before he was even born, my breasts got up to 50"! And my doctor advised me that I'd gain yet another 2 to 4 inches if I were to breast feed!!!!!  I was slim back then. You have no idea how ODD I looked with those overgrown mammaries.)
Anyway, I asked if I NEEDED to breast feed. He said, "Not unless the baby is in trouble". That, of course, was before they discovered the cancer-averting advantages of breast feeding *sigh*, or I'd have done it. But, honestly, I'd have tipped over when walking if I'd breast fed!
But in light of all this, it makes a girl wonder, eh?

Never mind say "Dolly Parton", Appyday. I could have given her a run for her money! *giggle. snort.*
I am so glad I am not built like that. (Mind you, I have a hard time believing that Dolly is [naturally] built like that either. Silicone is weird and wild stuff! *grin*)
Thank you for your well wishes! (Itchy! I am really itchy today!)

I continue to sleep well. I think that's important. I'm averaging 7 hours a night ... even the night after surgery (though they kept interrupting that sleep).
I learned the hard way that I NEED a nap, or at least a lie down, at LEAST once in the afternoon. I think I'd do better with two of them. Trouble is, my body is so tuned to only sleep between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. that it has trouble doing otherwise.
If I go to hard (which is pretty wimpy stuff, really) then I find I fall apart later in the day. Don't like that much, so now I'm taking my down time seriously. At least this week.
I love you guys. You are so supportive. It's really an amazing thing.
