 what does our pals here have to say why why not
Pros
1. more work for our judges
2. trainers too
3. cheaper way to show
4. more particpation form common folk brings PFHA money to our org
5. the elite are really elite when they show only PFHA shows
Cons
1. common folk could compete when qualified in many cheap shows with our best
2. the fancy folk could take the cheaper road(won't happen much)
3. we could bring some unknowns into spotlights against our top dollar horses
4. the market for our best might be threatened if other common horses win(also not likely)
The cons seem far fetched but worth considering???NOT

Ok - this may sound dumb - but wouldn't it be an incentive for people to show more Pasos ? Some owners aren't close to regular Paso "only" Shows and why shouldn't people who show at all Breed shows get recognition and points?
PLUS = the more people are exposed to Paso Finos the better! ;-)

We are starting a Paso Fino Sport Horse organization to organize regional fun shows into a B-show circuit for families. More timed events, more pleasure classes, no Fino and no Performance.
Also, we'll track points Paso Finos earn who compete in other events, such as Team Penning, Driving, etc...the idea is to recognize horses outside the PFHA show ring.
I'm not sure how this works with your poll. I've tried getting new classes included in PFHA without any luck (makes the show too long, too many classes all ready, etc.), so I'm not really looking to do that anymore. I do have successs adding non-pointed classes, Novice Trail, In-Hand Trail. But really think these should get the same recognition regular classes have...championships, etc.
This would be something the OTHER 90% of owners could do with their horses.

Carol - where can I find info, help support, etc... the paso sport horses?
Would this group also support a paso cross breed?

I was thinkin' this would also help show people who have only heard about Pasos that Pasos aren't always the crazy, little, wound-up horse that some poeple make it out to be. I know Romeo isn't wound-up and crazy...err...he only gets that way when food comes around...

There is a small group organizing it, but as with most things, not enough time to work on it properly (I was SUPPOSED TO RETIRE EARLY!!!). I'm still writing rules and need to write rules to incorporate as a non-profit. Once those two things are done, we're good to go.
I had a web site but Qwest killed it when they quit doing Internet service. I have a Tripod account and need to reload everything.
I'm actually SHOPPING for a volunteer to set up the website. This will be the only paid position once it's all up and running and money coming in, keeping the website updated and the points tallied. All other money will pay expenses (arena rental, buying equipment, ribbons, etc.) and then be pay-out.

I think it needs to include classes/divisions OTHER than some of what's at PFHA shows, particularly PLEASURE.
That's really become "show pleasure," but its TOO BIG a division to "dismiss"....a "real" pleasure(trail pleasure?)DIVISION, with classes not just for A/Os that dont have pro help, but ALSO ones for BREEDERS, and those A/Os that do seek help(why DIScourage education??but keep one for "ammy all the way!")
It would be nice to have "maiden' classes(first time showing)for riders, horses, etc...."green" classes for horses new to showing MORE than 4years old...etc.
I used to do shows like this, and it did MORE to promo the breed.
Also, recognition of people placing in "open" classes against other breeds that place....that's always an accomplishment, and one that helps the breed!
CarolU im willing to help, I could help you by making you a video or something showing the Paso Finos doing something other than gait around in circle like examble barrel racing, trails etc and also I know how to do photoshop so if you need anything just tell me

I'm not all that computer literate but I'd be glad to help.
Do you have any thoughts yet as to how many and where you shows will be?
Regardless keep us posted and I'm willing to work to promote the breed.

Am I wrong or just stupid.
Most things start small and build. The Pfha seems to have done things backwords. And remember I have only been in Paso a couple years.
But wouldn't showing regionally start small and as all breed shows and build into the large, (money wise), shows that we have. It seems to me like it is all backwards.
I appluade anyone that Brings back showing and promoting the breed to all owners.

Here's what the Mountain Horse people did. I think they were feeling (in 2000) the same way some of us are feeling. I watched a special on RFD-TV about this organization. There are 4 breeds that can belong - even cross-breeds within the 4 breeds, I believe. They all show together and people come to appreciate the differences in each breed.

Carol, I can't travel too much (kids, 2 businesses, etc) but if you'd like some help here in SD, I'll do what I can.

Thank you all....I need to print this thread out and send it to the COL and show him how badly I NEED TO retire!!!
SportHorse is still in flux. I'be been writing rules as I have time (kind of hard between work, 8 horses, putting on High Desert, writing for PFHW, witing for My Paso Fino (Cordy's new project), and goofing off here, oh yea, holding together a marriage and a house). I also have to write Rules of Incorporation to make it a Non-Profit organization. I don't want it to be part of PFHA, just losely affiliated with it. The cost will skyrocket if we start making things TOO official.
They idea is to have several regional shows the first year and then add shows as interest develops. They'd start out as one-day shows, entry fees would be low enough to cover expenses (most work done by volunteers) and the rest would go into a purse for each class/event. That would encourage all participants to get more people to participate in each event - increase the competition, but also increase the $$ awarded!!! :-)
It would actually be a way to MAKE money with your Pasos besides breeding and selling!
We'd add classes, events, divisions, as interest arrises and participation warrents.
Sound good??
