TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) -- A man was charged Thursday in connection with the deaths of 23 donkeys who had been crammed into a livestock trailer, officials said.

The donkeys, among 44 of the animals crowded into the trailer for shipment to Florida, trampled one another to death, officials said.

The dead animals were discovered when the driver pulled into an agriculture station in Suwannee County.

Christopher D. Youngblood, 30, of Ben Wheeler, Texas, was being held in the county jail, authorities said.

He is being charged with 23 counts of felony animal abuse and a count of driving with a suspended license, the Department of Agriculture said.

It was not immediately known whether Youngblood had obtained an attorney.

OMG, those poor donkeys!! Does he know that you can't just cram donkeys together or was he "just doing hsi job"?

He shouldn't have any animals in a trailer transporting them since he has a suspended driver's license. With no license, he also won't have insurance coverage either, so guess what happens if he causes an accident? Makes you wonder why he didn't notice the commotion in the trailer while they were trampling each other to death. Bet he won't have any money so the State of Florida will also get to pay for his attorney fees to defend him. Disgusting waste of taxpayer money.

I hope the judges throw the book at him, that is criminal negligence. I agree, he deserves a horrible death...
