So some history...Summer of his 2 yr old yr Roger was broke..went in Aug to the National show and was 8th in snaffle bit pleasure..then won a big snaffle bit futurtiy in NY...I got Roger fall of his 2 yr old year...put him out for the winter to rest...Showed him as a 3 yr old with no trainer to top 10 (8th) in the nation in year end standings in 3 yr old snaffle bit...as a 4 yr old again no trainer and put 50 + pleasure points on him (we work for them I think they GIVE them to the pasos)..to get 2 pts we have to win a class of 12. And 2-3 pt classes are hard to come by. Yes we have 2-4 judges though. OK put him up in Oct of his 4 yr old year (after Saturday at KYLE in Harrisburg winning all 4 of his pleasure classes) oh this is where I saw the pasos again and talked to a couple trainers came home and bought 2 of them that next weekekend. Ok Sunday before I put him up he won all 5 of his pleasure classes) so Sat KYLE PA and Sunday Hughesville MD long weekend for him so he was off the winter...I was sick on and off the next summer and never rode him AT ALL...I rode the pasos as they did not need to be "worked"
Ok so now 18 months later I lunge him 5 days at 12 minutes in the round pen...I then Saddle him and move him to 15 minutes...the first saddleing he bucked and bucked but not hard just round backed...after his 15 minutes I drop the whip he turns and comes to me (on his blind side he hears the whip drop) I click the lead rope to his halter at the bottom and say what the hell and climb on..I ask him to walk off..he does head dropped like he was in the ring...I ask to jog he does...I sit deep say whoa and put my heels in him (no spurs as I had tennis shoes on and was not planning to ride...he stops dead and sets his head and backs about 15 feed I take my heels out of his side and he stops backing..I get off ...remember this was with a halter and lead one rope attached to bottom of the halter..
Next day I lunge with saddle for 15 minutes..no buck...I again drop the whip he comes to me..I attach the lead to the bottom of the halter and climb on..again no spurs..lol was not going "to ride" I ask him to jog he does..head hanging..I sit..dig heels in he stops dead..I release I dont want a back..I put my outside leg on him he turns on his haunches and I then stick my outside heal on him and boom he lopes off in one stride...I sit deep heals go in again he stops sudden..I keep heel on him he backs 15 feet..I again release leg and he stops..I lay my outside leg and he pivots the other way again he lopes off in one stride head hanging...I sit use heel and he stops and backs about 20 feet till I release...all again with a halter and one lead attached under his chin..
cant wait till this week to dig the old spurs out and have a hell of a ride...I love a well broke horse..
