For those who were interested, this is the response I got from my hoster.
Hello Lori,

Your forum looks indeed popular.

Let me explain how bandwidth works.
Bandwidth is the amount of total megabytes are being uploaded or downloaded
every month from your website. Every time someone loads a page from
your website, it means some bandwidth is being used (based on the size of
the page they opened). Videos, audio, graphics, flash, use a lot more bandwidth
than normal pages.

All our plans come with a bandwidth limit. I upgraded your plan to 40GB (40 Gigabytes)
per month transfer. You used to have 30GB and you run out :).

It is not the old threads, Actually I suggest the opposite. Old threads are a great thing.
They are the ones to get you traffic from search engines. The more content you
have, the better chances of getting good free traffic (Which is not an easy thing
to do normally)

I suggest you optimize any video and audio (any multimedia element) you
may be using to minimize its size. that will help you stay withing your BW limits.

Of course if you feel that you need a lot more BW then we can upgrade your plan to allow more (the price will go up).

I have been running sites for a long time (high traffic sites too) and it is very rare I went over
5GB per month. It's the videos that spend most of your BW based on your stats

I wouldnt touch the old threads. GoogleBot seems to be all over them, that means
more traffic for you.

Best Regards,
-Socrates

So it sounds like video is the culprit. Darn. The videos are really fun to watch.

appy, I don't think it's your videos b/c you host them else where. It's the ones we put up on my server that do it. ;-)

My understanding of bandwith has nothing to do with videos or pictures, as they are stored on another server. Bandwith is basically the number of people accessing the APF site alone. For example, photobucket allows free posting of pictures as long as the bandwith does'nt exceed a certain amount (i.e. as long as not too many ppl view your picture). Therefore, the more popular a site, the more bandwith. Everytime you view a post, regardless of pictures or video, the bandwith goes up. Sites like this are time consuming and expensive, I'd love to help out as I've learned a ton about Paso's. Thanks Lori for all your work!!!

The videos hosted on apf uses bandwidth from apf. So if I look at a video on the home page I use apf bandwidth. It would help if we download our favorite videos to our computers so when we want to see them again and again we don't use bandwidth from apf. Same thing, that we don't link to them on other sites, but in that case check if we can upload them to another site that doesnt' use Lori's bandwidth. ;-)
