Here's my one photo of Fox Hunting with the Red Rock Hounds in Three Forks, Montana this morning. Cassidy was having a blast chasing after the hounds and the 52 Warm Blood types that were in the field. There were also some locally leased QHs that had a lot of trouble after a while. We hunted for a couple of hours, but the group I was following lost the hounds and we ended up doing a nice leisurely trail ride back to the trailers. Unfortunately the aspect of my Paso you get in the photo is a rather large ear! The photo is pretty good considering that we were either galloping of doing a largo at the time.

So who won, the fox or the hounds?

Looks fun! And awfully nice for Montana in April!!! Weird weather.

You have the same problem I do with these rides, lots of great pictures, none with me in them. LOL

That sounds cool. I've never experienced a fox hunt ride. Did they use real foxes?

The hounds did catch a coyote. I had pulled up at the point and I'm glad as there was a "blooding" ceremony where the Master of the Hounds marked everyone's cheeks with the blood of the coyote. I appreciate that this will happen, but I'm vonflicted about riding with them again. I have another chance tommorrow....

Here in Georgia they have "mock" fox hunts. No fox and you can also "hill top" which is keeping up but NOT jumping the huge jumps. I would like that I think.

I decided not to support fox hunting again. It was quite disturbing to know that they had killed a coyote. On top of that when I went to feed the next morning there was a pair of coyotes making their way across the pasture. Call it karma if you like, but I don't actually see coyotes that often. I watched them from behind the horses and realized that this is how I like to enjoy wild animals. I learned that Cassidy is OK in a galloping group of horses though and that mud isn't nearly as scary as I thought. I'll probably head out to where the photo was taken tommorrow to explore the area at my own pace.
