Another Great One gone - Don Coqui, PPR champion

died of bleeding after surgery for kidney stones as far as I can understand. I've asked for pictures of him.

Wow...wasn't he just gorgeous! How very sad that he died in recovery...too many horses make it through surgery, but not through recovery.... sometimes you just cannot save them, no matter how hard you try.

More likely enteroliths.... Which would be the same way Antares died... (I was first told he had gall stones...... horses don't have gall bladders!) This is a silent killer.... Does anyone know if there is any testing that can be done to locate this potentially fatal condition?

We were told that many of our paso finos are small enough for the largest equine XRay machines to pick up enteroliths. When Brilliant was nearly a year old and had his colic they were able to find the broken pelvis using "radiograph" which I assume is Xray. So there are times when being small and light are life saving. It probably depends on where the enterolith is also whether or not it shows up. They are killers for sure.

Looks like he may have amber eyes. Our old Colombian mare has dark amber eyes. They are really cool looking.

There are two nice pictures of Don Coqui in the first edition of the new magazine "Paso Fino: A Puerto Rican Breed". A shame. There are so few left. Has anyone else gotten the magazine, by the way?

Wow, he really was a nice looking horse. A mare I owned named Evelina also had amber eyes. She was a Borinquen daughter out of Atenea.
