I would like to know who all is going, maybe I can hitch a ride with them and split the cost. Whatever will work. If I get to go. Crossing my fingers

The Trail Ride weekend ad in the April PFHW page 102 says it is $45 per adult and $20 per youth with a signup deadline of April 28th. After that it is $55 adult/ $30 youth if space is still available.

Hi everyone, notice the pre- and post- fees...there is still time to sign up this week if you are planning on going. Mail a check to the PFHA office. I'm waiting on a mare to foal, so yes I'm procrastinating on signing up...priorities first. One of us will post more info this week. Alot of info is already at the www.piedmontpasofino.org news page which will be helpful to know about the facility and the park.

refreshing this for anyone who may have been putting it off. I have an extra campsite and stall available. Baily all the info you need is in Lynns post. I have sites 3 and 4 and stalls 5 through 7. If you want the campsite it is $20 per day. the number for the PFHA office is 813-719-7777 I assume you can call and give a credit card number to get the reduced entry fee.
ME ME ME, I'm going! I'm bringing hubby too! We're really looking forward to it. I'm in campsite 5 or 6, will have to dig up the confirmation letter. I've heard the park is a top-notch facility, with really nice trails. Good trails, good horses, good food, and good friends. It doesn't get any better than that! Come join us!

The first rides will be in morning Saturday, with clinics in the afternoon. People can still ride if not wanting to attend all the clinics in the afternoon. A cookout for dinner is planned with fun classes in the evening.

I'll be there Saturday...I signed up today! Don't know who I am bringing for a horse (have 3 to choose from). I'm pretty close anyway...about 2 1/2 hrs away directly north.
I just hope that is not the day the local farmers will be harvesting their hay as I NEED hay and that is my main source...the spring cutting of oat hay will most likely be next week depending upon the weather. Its ready to be cut..heading out now...the ground is now wet.
See ya there! 8-)

from Milda Minter this morn about the ride update....
We will be just riding on Sat morning, figure a group may go out about 9. Clinics will start later, about 1 after lunch at noon, so people can ride in the morning. There is one clinic on massage and related topics that will be on Sunday because of clinician conflict.

This is just a question from someone who lives far away...is Sand Hill a nesting ground for Sand Hill cranes? I just wonder if that is where the name came from. Anybody know?

The sandhills of South CArolina, in the middle and lower part of the state, were once the ocean front so there is a ton of sand and if you didn't know better you'd think you were at the coast. Columbia SC is actually at the "fall line" which was the ocean shore millions of years ago and above the fall line you have red clay and hills and below the fall line you have flat land, sand and very small trees we call scrub oaks which are really stunted white oaks because the water drains through the sand so quickly they don't get much water. There are many lakes in the sandhills also. It's really a very lovely area. It gets very warm in the day but cools quite a bit at night. They get less long rainy spells but get lots of thunder storms in the summer. It's warmer in winter than the upstate of SC which is mountainous and plateau. Many gulls in the sandhills so perhaps they still remember when it was the coast. The coast is now over 100 miles away by the way. No sandhill cranes that I know of - they are in FL. Stella is in the sandhills also I think. It's a pretty wide area.

I've traveled thru the Sandhills State park last year on way to the Columbia SC Show. I thought what a beautiful place for a trail ride! Its is rather rolling hills in the State Forest section and lots of pine trees! I'm going to get up early Saturday and head south to be there for the morning ride.

Visit the historical section on Charleston. Talk about the history of SC. You will get a tast of it.
