Hey, that's a bear trap saddle!!! Aren't they wonderful??? I just bought one myself!
Great photos, beautiful horses, impressive rider! Congrats!
Congratulations on your placements and you and the horses all looked good in the ring! You didn't mention your loyal fan who was always ready with his camera whenever you were on a horse.
Alex and I enjoyed seeing you at the show and finally putting a face with the bulletin board name.

Hey guys it was nice meeting you and stalling on the same isle, now talking about the horses that you rode in the show i thought the gelding should have been placed better than what he got , the natural way of going was real nice , he was not as hot as others but this is a pleasure class and should have been judged as one , great going i am happy for both of you greg and you . I think gregs head got a little bigger not a lot bigger and it shoud have he did a great job to

Kind of interesting, I just looked it up in the rule book since I wasn't sure.
Shelley, this is not like QH or Appy shows. The type of bit we have does not dictate the number of hands allowed on the reins, but the class we're in does. If you are in Western Pleasure or in Trail Class using western tack, you can only have one hand (the same hand) on the reins.
She is showing in Pleasure Geldings in western tack. I am unsure from the pictures how many hands she has on the reins, it looks like two, but could very well be one with the nap in the other hand like Don described.
What is interesting is that when I looked in the rule book, I didn't see a rule specifying just one hand on the reins if in Western tack is used in the Pleasure Divison classes. That is how I've always thought it, but it is not in the rule book.
Patti is the best here on the rule book and tack requirements, maybe she could clarify this.

I when through it w/ 2 diff stewarts I have one hand on the rein with the other holding the bite and if you ride western in the Pleasure divion you must use one hand only but can hold the bite so it does not drag.
My trainer was there and she is very vocal when I do anything wrong
Like on Sun. when I made a mistake with Pruba she was at the gate to tell me all about it ,got to Lover her!

In Schooling Pleasure with western tack you can use two hands but in Geldings class only one hand can be used. Now how many fingers did you have between your reins? Can't tell from the pics but when holding the bight of the reins or a romel, no fingers can be between the reins, also there must be 16 inches of rein between the hands. When the bight hangs it must be on the same side as the reining hand and one finger can be used between the reins. I have a hard time doing it correctly because it is opposite of the way you hold for english style. With english you bring the reins up from your pinky to your thumb and index finger, western you bring the rein through you index and out your pinky end. Although holding the romel it comes up your pinky and out the top near your thumb. Have I totaly confused you all yet?

Okay to clarify rein positions
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i86/pblichmann/english.jpg
English style, one rein in each hand.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i86/pblichmann/fingersplit.jpg
One finger between rein with bight of rein on same side
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i86/pblichmann/romel.jpg
Romel or split rein, no finger between reins, bight held in opposite hand with 16 inches between

Appyday- you asked bout my hands on the riding of this horse if you look at the last photo of me and Jibaro you can see I have the reins in one hand and the bite in the other not sure how far apart they are I was told a safe bet is they are to be carried buy your hip.know when i get nervous my hand will come up a little so in some case it might look like two hands but i assure you I do right never hard to stay with the rules no one pointed out anything wrong at the show and I enjoy riding western I have been the one to try this gelding western and even got complimets from other trainers(i'm not a trainer).
