View Full Version : Our 4 Dogs

These are the 4 we kept out of the ones we have had.
Blue who was one of the main breeding studs the Back Yard breeder had then sold to a lady with another one who let sit in her back yard for a year. She contacted me saying they didn't want the big dogs in the house (now remember Vegas gets to be 120 and had to live out in that heat) and they traded them in for a pocket dog.
He is a pretty big boy but loves our cats and gets along with others as long as they leave him alone, the puppies that is.
Myla is the granddaughter of Blue who was at the main breeders' friends breeding facility. I had a friend go in and buy her since he spoke about breeder her at 6 months of age. Lots of bad stories about this guy too. But he is no longer in business either *grins* She cries when she can't give the cat's kisses but they are none too fond of that.
CB (Chubby Bubby -please don't ask) came from a litter of 7 who were thelast that this guy bred. At the time with the 7 puppies at 4 months old, we had 15 dogs total. Talk about crazy! CB is a love bug who loves everything. His 6 siblings live all over the US from Maine to New Mexico to Lake Tahoe. Unfortunately I failed their mom. When I went to get one female he had we only had room for one and I would come back the next week for the other. Then the guy calls me and says I can't come get her and he changed his locks. I knew she was pregnant. No other reason. He could make a quick buck passing them off as Purebreds. He bred Newfs and Great Pyrs together selling them as pure. Seems she had the puppies and then died being squished in the Vegas heat between a shed and a wall. At that point i was determined to get ALL he had and minus 1 who was sold, I did manage it. He has no females left, no puppies, only his one intact male he refused to neuter. And the laws just changed where he lives. He cannot breed legally since he gives no vaccinations and I keep a close eye on him.
The last just came last month. I had been waiting years and years for a brown Newf boy and he came. He was from a breeder who did not want to pay for Entorpian surgery on his eyes. He loves everything too. I got him to be a pal for CB since CB was lonely and not allowed to play with Myla as Blue dictated. Now all 4 play and it seems to have brought out everything I dreamed of for the four of them. I only have 1 pic of him, neglectful pic taker I have been these past few weeks.
No plans for anymore to keep. 4 was it. But we will always have rescues in and out of our lives. We just got back a Blue Merle Aussie who was terrified of the husband there but great with mine. Finding him a home has been difficult and still no luck.

They will bark up a storm but lick and slobber on you is more like it.
Though we did have one save my life in a home invasion (part of the reason we moved from Vegas). He had to be adopted out quickly because he would not let people near me after that. He was a cousin to the Newf and Newf/Pyrs we have had. Same guy dumped him in the shelter after he got too big to sell. He is happily living up in Washington state making an older man very happy being his best friend.

They all look like the most LOVED dogs in the world, and your husband looks like the SWEETEST guy in the world. I love men who love animals!

I have Turkish Akbash/Newfoundland/St. Bernard cross "puppies".
Don'tcha just LOVE that Newf personality? My babies are absolutely the best dogs ... and beautiful, like yours. Unbeknownst to me, all my puppies were beaten regularly by a young psycho we had living here, and even still, they've all grown up to be loving dogs. The only one with lingering emotional problems is my favourite, "Bubba". He took a worse beating than the rest because the young psycho would pick on Bubba whenever he was angry at me (for disciplining him).
Poor Bubba still barks like crazy at any strange man who comes on the place. He won't stop barking 'til he has personally escorted the stranger's vehicle OFF the property, thank you very much. But lately, Bubba has gotten a little bolder and has nipped at one fellow's hand. I've got to put up a sign:
Please stay in your vehicle and honk for assistance.
"Bubba" is on the loose and he doesn't like strangers.
That ought to help with the other psycho we have in the neighbourhood ... the one who has 4 convictions for theft, and another one on the books.

JennLM you have beautiful dogs. And I too think your hubby has GOT to be a keeper! :D I think the big dogs have the sweetest personalities most of the time. They just seem to enjoy life and go at it alot more relaxed than some of the smaller breeds.
Jane, I am glad Bubba is at your place for you......I would go nuts knowing I had physco's living all over the neighborhood! Let Bubba stay loose! Go BUBBA!

Hubby was not too thrilled when we had 17. (7 being the 4 month old huge Newf/Pyr puppies, Our 2, some other Newf mixes and 3 wolfdogs)
Sometimes I can see the whites of his eyes when I mention bringing more home. I made a promise not to bring anymore home until we move umm unless it's a dire need. *grins* and It's always a dire need. I am so bad...
They are very spoiled and when we are not home have a 10x12 air conditioned/heated dog house. It helps when it hits 120 degrees. Most times they are inside crashed next to me ont he floor. They hold the floor down. Heads on a/c vents sucking all the cold air in while I sweat LOL
Part of the reaosn I like the big dogs is calmness. I like to just sit and relax.
Thank goodness they slept outside last night. I let them sleep outside when it's cooler outside then in, they prefer it most times. I heard the youngest barking a funny bark. No one else was barking and they never play at 3am. I got pretty snippy and got up. I look out the back and hear the burrowing owl screaching too. I am thinking coyotes but they steer clear of us because of our wolfdogs. I see ahorse head on the other side of the property. It's 3am and I am not very awake. I look over to the 3 stalls. Merling the Saddlebred was in his, the morgan was in his and low and behold snotty princess is missing. ACK!
Husband is sleeping nicely and I hate to wake him but I honestly did not feel like chasing a horse down the road at 3 am alone.
I toss on my slippers and run out in my jammies hoping no one would see. I do yell at my husband to wake up, his horse is out. I fly outside tell the puppy he was a GOOD GOOD boy for barking and waking me up.
I grab a bucket and toss some hay cubes in it. Knowing she would trample me to have some food the little piggy she is.
I rattle the bucket and all 4 feet flying towards me eeeeeeeeeeeek! She skids to a slop sliding almost into me and sticks her nose in the bucket. Wanting to wring her neck but saying good girl for coming and give her a pet.
I look at her stall and nothing is amiss. Everything is chained and locked in place. No bars broken, nothing. I stick her in her stall and batton down the hatches once more totally perplexed. None of the other dogs barked and nothing had been opened on her stall.
Only 2 conclusions.
1) She climbed over and out which I think is about impossible considering how short she is.
2) She was rolling and got herself stuck under the bars and pushed up to get herself out and ended up on the outside.
Tonight I moved her to a new stall that was abit bigger (The Morgan who left today used to move the stalls around to new areas of the property but when Liberty got here he would move it and squish her in her stall) and hope she stays put.
I know my Trinket won't be such a pain.. Right? right?????
Talk about putting grey hair on your head.

I loved the pictures!
Do you know what I love about this board? We're a group of animal junkies.
When I read your post I burst out laughing. Not only do our men humor us but they even try to rein us back into sanity. I loved when you wrote that you could see the whites of his eyes when you said you wanted to bring home more.
You've got a good man there! What sane person would want 17 dogs? And yet.....I can see myself getting into a similar situation.
Maybe we should have a guest therapist visit this board once a week to tell us that our husbands are really a voice of reason is our wild storm of enthusiam for our animal friends?
See how easy it is to look at someone else's life and be reasonable. When your husband says no....I think he's being logical. When Tony says no I think if he could just hear me ask one more time he'd see how we need the new animal........lol NEED IT!
Yup, when is that therapist coming? I need the first session.

The only thing that saves me is the fact they don't stay. Only long enough to get proper vaccinations or healthy and get adopted out. The 7 puppies went FAST but had to stay a month since the Bakc yard breeder never gave any vacicnations and they were 4 months old.

Oh My....Purina must LOVE you!!! How much dog food do you go through?? ROFL
MiniBeast (that dog needs a name change now..LOL) is such a beauty...those two pictures are evidence that dogs ALWAYS grow into their feet! He's huge! But gorgeous.
And I used to have a dog name Chubby too..it just fits some dogs!
Great pictures and great dogs....too bad you live in the desert, I think you almost have a full sled team.

Just 3 adult Newfs dogs go through 40 pounds a week, add in the new puppy and the ones for adoption the 2 wolfdogs (who get raw chicken too) and the Aussie, a LOT of dog food. Roughly 80 pounds per week. I was lucky to get torn bags as donations for the rescues when I was working in town, but since i left, more food for us to buy. It's more to feed the dogs per month then the horses. At about 30 bucks a bag it means I need to hurry and sell out house so we can move and I can start my business so I can have an income LOL

LOL I didn't post our animals for adoption but here they are:
Here is Luin the male 2 1/2 yr old Blue Merle Aussie who is very hard to adopt out with all his issues and already returned once because the husband was barked at the first day, he hated poor Luin and finally said the dog had to go. Luin leaped in my husbands arms and kissed him all over when we went to pick him up. He did great with the widfe adn their dog, just not the husband who intimidated him.:

Tala our ambassador mid content wolfdog that I do Wolfdog Education lectures with at schools and other places.:

and Wanvhi our low content wolfdog:

We just drove a high content Acrtic to Colorado to her new home where we placed another high content 2 yrs ago to be his mate. By mate it's packmate all are fixed when we adopt out.
She was gorgeous. The shelter labeled her as a Husky to adopt out to families and I had a kaniption and got her out of there asap.

Tala and Myla are my favorites. I used to have a Mexican Timber Wolf/German Shepherd cross. Myla looks almost like an Anotolian Shepherd.
Thanks for sharing all those beautiful pics! We have 4 dogs and I know if I go to the shelter, I want to bring them all home - so I can't go into the back anymore, when I go to make donations :(

I met a nice Newfee this weekend, but I was surprised to see that he had white markings like socks and on his chest. She said he was a purebred, but from a certain line. Is this common? He was beautiful and very friendly.
