Went to check out Cowboy Mounted Shooting today. UD W/PICS

It was awesome! I got to see all sorts of neat things - nice horses, friendly people, great outfits and tack, and of course - cowboy ed and his wife, kathi lee.

Everyone was really nice and helpful - there were a variety of breeds represented and all of them did really well, even the Arabian. Everyone parked their horses around the arena and watched the rides. All of the horses were dead calm, some even asleep with all of the shooting going on!

Ed and Kathi Lee did pretty darn good with their runs. Kathi Lee looked very classy with her gauchos and dressy blouse that coordinated perfectly with her dun horse - Ed was stunning in his satiny daffodil colored shirt. They made quite the pair. :D

We had the opportunity to help out with the balloons for the fun run - It is a bit funny to see Cowboy Ed running through an arena with a balloon. He reminded me of a mischevious little boy for some odd reason. ;-)

Here is Kathi Lee showing her stuff. She is a good shot. She had the 3 C's when she was out there - Composed, Calm and Consistent. Her mount is *if I remember* Pistol Packing Poncho aka Pokey.

Here is a video of the level 6 shooter (the best), I believe his name is Rock something another. This run was dank! I really liked his horse, reminded me of one I used to ride when I was a teenager.

Oh wow! That was so cool! Do they use blanks? Must be hard to hit the balloons with the wind blowing and they still did, amazing!

Yup blanks - and you have to run a pattern and shoot off both sides of your mount. People and horses use earplugs because you wouldn't believe how LOUD those pistols are. You have to carry two single action 6 shot 45's loaded with five shots each so you have to change weapons in the middle of the run while your horse is doing something like going in and out of barrels. It's pretty easy to hit the balloons because fire shoots our of the barrel too but if you get distracted it's easy to miss. Most people get them all unless they are running flat out. We can't wait to try it on our horses since we already did the walk through with one and she did fine!

Great pics Mel!! Mounted Shooting is pretty big around here, as you can imagine. I have never tried it - it is fun to watch though!

the videos mel did are of champion cowboy mounted shooter rock clark, one of a few level 6 (highest level) shooters in the country, and his son, cody. they live in tennessee. wife/mom terri clark is a ladies level 4 shooter, btw. this is a sport the entire family can enjoy.

there were a total of 81 shooters for the match on saturday, and 87 on sunday. since the matches were in gainesville, georgia, the majority of the participants were georgia folks, but we had quite a number from florida and tennessee.

cowboy mounted shooting has a cash payback for the top three places in each class. there are also additional prizes, and belt buckles for class advancement awards.
