I don't understand that law :confused
Me eathier
I have some clues about it but im not so well informed about it - the basic things where that they wanted to send back all the illegal immigrants back to where they are from - but imagine america with out these people - who is going to work the fields like they do? My dad is one of the few people in Miami who are the ones who supply most americans in the winter - Yucca, sweet potato, and Malanga. Most of our employees are illegal they are cheaper to pay and a lot more hardworking than anyone in the US. Along with the crops we do our neighboring companies are the leading squash and tomatoe producers and guess who works those fields? the famous "wetbacks" that some americans love to hate.
I still don't know why the whole issue towards them.

Nito when things aren't perfect some people always look for someone else to blame. This is what started the Nazi thing. After WWI Germany was in terrible shape - people were starving, there was no money, everything was terrible. Hitler came along with a scapegoat and people either bought into it or just ignored it because they wre all so depressed and the horror and mass murder began.
Probaly no more than 100 years or so ago it was the Irish who were to blame for all sorts of things, then African Americans, now illegal immigrants. Our problem is - we are going to run out of space and resources so the only solution is to help the countries with a huge number who want out and get their economy back on track so people won't have to leave home to make a decent wage. I can't tell you how many people I know who would prefer to stay in their original country but just can't make a living. I also know an American who would prefer to live out of the country but can't make a living. People who are born in this country and have never lived in a third world country have no clue what it is like. We need to send all our high school kids to live in a third world country for one year. It would really open their eyes. It's a shame really how ignorant we are about the rest of the world and their problems. They are like a movie to us, not real.
But in the meantime we have to find a solution for the illegals who are already here and doing jobs that need to be done and are hardworking good people. It's a serious quandry.

I don't understand why there is not a better system for those who want to come here to work to get here legally. But I don't think it is our country that makes it so difficult. I think it is on the other end. Though this is just what I have been told. I really don't know how it works. It seems though that some can get here quite easily and others not at all. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I will not post a long treatise on what I believe about your statement, Nito, but I will say that I only support _legal_ immigration (for the purpose of citizenship) into my country. I do not oppose _temporary_ visas for work purposes.
I fully support assistance to other countries to help them create jobs and a better future for their own citizens.
I do not support _illegal entry_ into this country for any purpose.

I think it is a very complex issue. On two counts Nito is totally correct, we need the immigrants, they are 10% of our workforce and responsible for 18% of our economy. We only have a 4% unemployement rate right now, so THAT should tell everyone we really DO need all of these workers. There is no one right now who wants a job who can't find one. It may not be their choice job, but there are LOTS of jobs.
The other thing he said is also true, they work MUCH cheaper then Americans do. This is their curse/blessing. On one hand businesses such as farms would not make it without their cheap labor (and all of us benefit by lower prices), but on the other hand it is to ALL the busnisess' best interest to keep the laborers illegal and not have to pay them decent wages or any benefits. They are being kept illegal quite deliberetly. And the businesses are not being blamed for not providing the health care and services the illegals DO need. It is so much more 'American' to blame the immigrants then the businesses that exploit them.
I have experience in my family with illegals. It takes roughly 3 years and about $4000 to become a citizen of this country. My niece has helped 3 Mexicans become citizens now. It is her 'cause' and even with the experience of knowing what to do, it is still very difficult and very frustrating.
I do agree with something Sandy said...I really agree with a guest worker program. We need the labor, we need to step up and be honest about it. Pay these people a decent wage that will provide benefits for their family in their native country. Safe work environments and protection under our laws. They are human beings just like the rest of us.

CarolU, you silly, silly woman! In order to have that cake (cheap produce etc), you can't let the immigrants eat it too (decent wages etc), or the produce wouldn't be cheap anymore.

They have ok'd the presence of Scooter. I'm thinking about having him walk me down the aisle in a tux.
Do you think this tux will be too small? Will it make his butt look big?

i have no plan to get married, but if it ever happened i already decided it'll be a totally non traditional crazy setup, way out in the wilds somewhere, guests hauled in with an old farm wagon and team, bride and groom both end up late, then come crashin in in haste on fast horses from different directions. dressed in horsified fashion rather than the normal silly fancy stuff. oh well, it'll probably never happen.

I think Sandy should carry you down the aisle on Pete. She has Arrowhead Paso Finos after all, so it fits!!!
Cool! I agree on the pictures. We haven't had a BB wedding since Mel's...

It is a very complicated issue and one that I think I could shed some light on as it affects my community. I will start out by saying I consider many of these people my friends, and I do admire their work ethic and understand how they want to come here to better their lives.
I have seen how the chicken industry( in my communitys case) has recruited them here and used them to their benefit. They can somehow get the government to help pay for their training period, thus saving the company money. This makes it an incentive for the company to hire them over American workers. They can get them to do almost any kind of job without complaining of the conditions. Few understand their rights, if any. Some cant even figure out their own paychecks. If an American worker complains about the working conditions, they are quickly told that there are 100 Mexicans waiting for their job. Some of the workers have assumed names of others who have green cards that are legal. That makes it as though you cant be sure if the person is who they say they are. I had a personal offer of $5000 for my daughters SSN/card in order to get a relative across the border. I have talked to a rancher whose land borders Mexico, and he told me that he finds several a yr on his land dead, where they die trying to make it here. It is so very sad.
