From reading our regional delegate's report... PFHA is looking for ways to raise money to pay for it if they are the host country in 2007.
I attended as a spectator when it was in Tampa back in 1999(?), plus the one in Santo Domingo honoring Christopher Columbus 400 (?) years to the new world landing in that area of the D.R.

So it is up to the ASsoc. of thehosting country to incur the cost to put it on?
I know the one in Puerto Rico,....the tickets were very expensive to get in or have a pass.

PFHA is incurring the costs for the Youth Mundial this year and last I heard currently were looking at a (minus) to get it to happen...
They really need more sponsorships and fund raisers!!!
Maybe APF could have a fundraiser since we have so many youth on here that are going? Is there items the youth could sell to raise funds?
When I was growing up, in scouts, we ourselves had to sell items to raise funds all the time for whatever event we wanted to participate in.
Can someone key us in that is a youth who has done this with past Mundials how it is handled per partcipant?

We really enjoyed the Tampa Mundial show
Lynn since you are well involved in the PFHA do you know any options they have to fundraise and that APF can help?

From some fundraisers I have seen, horses (young horses and also geldings) have been donated to sell to raise money. Stud fees have been donated and auctioned to raise money. I believe I read two geldings have been donated to raise money for the purse for the Geldings For Gold additional A/O classes. There have been horses that have been sold at the PFHA auction with the sale proceeds going to a particluar event or for say the youth fund.
Piedmont has raised money before like a silent auction table..... as even training services, other services or tack items, etc.... could be donated.
What about some ideas from the APF Youth, as in fundraising efforts in their regions and for school events?
I do know PFHA needs more funds raised for the Youth Mundial expenses. Having it a success financially will help it come back to the US as a host site in the future.
I would think funds raised and donated would enable sponsor status on some level.

I know I really enjoyed the '99 show in Tampa.........BUT the one thing that sorta got to me was the lack of horses in some of the classes resulting in the title of "World Champion" for a ONE horse class. (I know ........)
And believe me a couple of those "champions" should of been viewed by the judges before they entered the ring to be saddled.........talk about bad conduct!
But the horses where overall.......super to watch...all that action everywhere!

i've had an idea for raising a little money at some of the shows for the youth mundial. like if alot of us get together and offer to clean ppls stalls, wash there horses, wash there trucks and trailers, babysit of do little odd jobs u could prolly earn a little money from it. It wouldn't be much but it mite help with a little bit.
I would plan to take a horse if it were held in Tampa, but I despise the stalls at Kissimee and am only taking a horse for the Youth Mundial for Alex to show. We have also hired someone to feed, groom, and guard our horse and am glad they have limited access to the stall area to people with badges.
Is there a reason they changed the venue to Kissimee when Tampa worked so well last time?

I heard the Jacksonville facility is really nice...it would have ben nice to have it there to attract more horses from the north. Hey but I don't make those decisions.
I liked the Tampa facility too...not far from the airport.
El Indio Elegante........those are great ideas.........maybe there could be something done at some of the upcoming shows in May/June. You'd need to get organized real soon though. Even horse holders or tack cleaners!

Anyone got a horse they would like to donate, and everyone can buy tickets and all money collected we can give to the PFHA as sponsorship money from APF.
You could get a show to donate a booth for the youth, and they could man it themselves. Sell stuff, clean tack, whatever. Someone would have to be "in charge" of the money, and make sure it was stored safely when nobody was at the booth, but it could work. You could bring paper sacks to keep tack separate, and mark each bag with the person's name, and have tags to put on the saddles. How about manning a "tack swap" and have people bring items they would like to trade or sell. The youth would keep a "comission"/donation for the sale/trade. How about home made food? I'm a sucker for brownies, cookies, rice crispy treats, etc, and would devour almost anything when starving at a horse show. carmel apples, popcorn, carrots, things normally not found to eat at the shows. Of course, that would have to be cleared with the food vendor, to make sure there were no conflicts there. If you might have some interest and would like to try to do that at Asheville, you could contact Rita MaGaha at 864-457-2254.

It may be old fashioned, but back in the Lazy R days at Ramey AFB, us kids ran the food vendor booth. Look at the markup on those items at PFHA shows. I've always wondered why PFHA youth didn't have a booth or some sort at these shows. It would work across the nation. Hey, if I have to buy a burger for $5, I'd rather it go to our kids.
The kicker at Lazy R is the kids had to work the booth. That was the deal. Sometimes an adult would help with the cash register, but we did the prep, cooking, and cleaning afterwards.
Why can't PFHA regions donate a booth area for kids for something like that? Sure taught me to appreciate the times I rode. I knew I had earned it.
Hey, I'd bring tons of tack to clean! ;-) And if I were showing again, you better believe I'd pay someone to wash my horse!
