The Dillsburg Show had a nice turnout..and some very good /tough judging (although sometimes it made you scratch your head..as when one would place a horse first and one would place it last)There was a good amount of excused horses (especially in pleasure classes) even in one horse classes. Alvaro Iriarte, who judged Sunday, was very nice in taking the time to explain to the arena about how he was excusing horses due to non gait and misbehaving.(not each class but took time to give us all a talk at the end of a youth class) He stated that he felt it was not fair to place these horses and then the owners head to Nationals and spend all that money on a horse that shouldnt be there. He said basically that he felt as a judge it was his responsibility to tell people if their horse isnt gaiting. He stressed that with the youth,(and those new to the breed) how else are they going to learn ?
This show is used by many as a schooling show so some go into it knowing there horse may not behave or may not be gaiting consistantly yet .It is a smaller venue, relaxed atmosphere.A good place to introduce your horse to the ring..

I missed the show. But I am glad to hear that Alvaro wasn't afraid to excuse horses. Too often horses make enough points to go to nationals and then bammm reality hits..........after all the money is spent to get there. And again, how are folks to learn that a majority of the horses really can't go from fino class to country pleasure (an exageration perhaps). Or one of my favorites is a horse that would be wonderful as pleasure or performance is literally pulled into fino gait. Yikes!!
