The National Hurricane Center is predicting 13 to 16 named storms this hurricane season, with eight to 10 of those becoming hurricanes and four to six developing into Category 3 or above storms.
The center outlined its predictions from Miami on Monday morning.
Weather experts stressed that we are in the middle of an active hurricane cycle, and there will be more and stronger hurricanes over the next 10 to 20 years.
They also emphasized that while government agencies need to be prepared, individuals need to have hurricane plans in place and be ready to take care of themselves for the first three days.
Last year, the NHC predicted 12 to 15 named storms, and there were a record-breaking 28 named storms.
Hurricane season begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30.
