Since he is half Peruvian, he really belongs in this forum...

These are from last week, sorry I'm late with an update! LOL

He sure is cute. 8-)

I'm having a ball w/the foals at La Fortuna. There is one little guy that reminds me of your Coronado. But in a good way of course.

OK my eyes are playing tricks on me.

The first pic I hardly see much a sock but int he second it's much higher. And there is one on both feet in the second.

Are they the same foal?

I love the coloring in that first pic and can't wait to see what color he will be as he grows.

*****TWILIGHT ZONE HERE*****

I went and looked at some other pictures on line, and his sock (there is only one) DOES seem to be growing! Look at this picture at 2 weeks!

At this rate he'll be white soon....

Look closer. The sock doesn't go up any higher. It's a shadow.

He's got a butt that just won't quit.... I love his looks...but I am still wondering (probably missed) if he is part QH?

Does he gait? Have you seen him moving in gait while at play?

CarolU

You must have missed it. Due to how late Bella foaled, we are pretty sure she was owned by "the Cowboy" at the time she became pregnant. Debbie contacted him and he called back. He had to QH 2-year-old colts that could have bred her, one a Buckskin and the other a Palamino. So, daddy was a QH. Since they don't do DNA on QH's, it's a guess which it is. Definately a QH butt and he's muscling up like crazy.

He does gait...just not sure what you want to call it:

Mostly he bucks, rears, runs, does sliding stops, rears, kicks and bites. But this morning he is off his feed and not feeling 100 percent. I have the vet coming out at 1 to see him. Not sure what is wrong, but know he's not right. :(

They do do DNA on QHs. Hope he is feeling better soon and nothing serious.

Carol, I hope he's okay! He is so darn cute - I can't stand it. How do you get any work done around your place??? His coloring is getting lighter too.

I don't get any work done...my house is a mess. Oh well. I figure he won't be cute anymore in a few years.

He is not my bouncing baby boy this morning :( ...no rearing, running, kicking, or bucking. He's only nursed a little (Bella's bag is full, but he does nurse) and he's half hearted about eating his pellets/grain, which normally he attacks with relish. He's nibling a little hay and grass. His respiration rate is high (about 80...what is normal for a foal?) and he feels feverish to me, damp - and we managed to break my thermometer by stepping on it.

On the positive side, he's not rolling, kicking, or straining for a BM or to urinate, he whinnies and jogs up to me when I go see him. He passed a pinch test for dehydration. He won't stand still long enough for a pulse check, but that could be a positive sign too.

He's really just not himself.

He was running a slight fever, 103.8. All else checked out fine. He's on antibiotics and probios for 6 days. I'll let all know how soon he bounces back....

BTW - he kicked us for our trouble. It's hard to feel bad about poking him with a teeny tiny needle. LOL

Oh, he's been practicing! ----- for the Saddle Bronc competition! This boy has some MOVES! ROFL

He is feeling better tonight...hopefully a few more days and he'll be good as new...or bad as ever, as the case may be.

I thought I should tell everyone that the little star of the Rodeo is feeling much better today. Eating and pooping fine. Feeling frisky and yes, bucking, biting, and backing up to get his precious arse scratched. Everything is A OK at the Little Buckaroo Rodeo ground.

I just found this thread. Actually, I'm sorta glad I didn't see it earlier in the week -- I would have been worried. It's a good thing he was feeling better by the time I found out he was ill. Did the vet actually figure out what was wrong, or was it just an unidentified bug of some kind?

Carol, I wonder if it had anything to do with maybe Bella cycling...a change in her milk upset his digestive tract...unless he ate an obnoxious weed. Glad he is feeling better!

CarolU

Bella is cycling now, the vet checked her milk. Would that make him run a fever?

I believe it is a bacteria. He felt better after his shot on Monday, felt good most of the day Tuesday but got feverish again in the afternoon. Last night's shot seemed to have put him over the top, he's been great all day. He got another shot today.

Funny thing...he's great about the shots. I think he bangs himself up often enough (not to mention getting smacked for biting or kicking) that pain isn't a huge issue with him...and he's fearless/tough about stuff, so he just takes it and keeps eating dinner!

Anyway, I'm glad he's over the hump and I can finally sleep tonight. Also that he got his probios throughout and no diarhea. Doing great!

Hey Cindy... is DNA now required on AQHA horses? The 17 years I bred them...they didn't DNA any QH. That is great if they do..I'm DNA proofing's biggest fan (sorry Shelley... But I truely am ;-) )

Cindy

Yes, I believe it is Terry.
