Okay it looks like we are going to have quite an onslaught of pasos and paso people. I'm wondering if there is a suitable horse friendly campground that could be reserved for that weekend, cuz I have a feeling that for most of us, just up and back and splittin back up to go here and there ain't gonna cut it, and we need to make a real event out of this.
Whadya think?

No thanks! I'd much rather just go home.....
No joke - it took me two days to come off the adrenaline high. It hit me Monday night, and *BAM* I was out like a light.
You are WIRED from Saturday DAY till Monday - it is crazy. I didn;t even sleep a wink on Saturday night! I was up at 1:23 am and out the door to my barn getting ready at 2:30am....its nuts. I don't want any more of a "project"...

Perhaps Abby if we got a camp site, we could go up Saturday morning, spend the evening together and NOT wake up at 1:30 sunday morning. On the other hand I don't know how close to NYC there would be any equine camp grounds. Barb???

I would ask Jay and Jose.
But I am not sure I would want to , I know what Abby is saying.
trust me.

you will be flying for quite a few hours....... I think best, we organize ourselves for a celebration get together and chill out, outside the park (weather permitting). That was so great, Jose had a barbecue going, fed the standing police but then was busted by the Central Park police. Someone knows all the details. Att that time I didn't know that Jose was an excop and had some kind of collegial in with them. I was worried about being taken away in handcuffs. I hadn't realised that that was Barb's ambition. I don't know how much time was allotted for that????

I had thought of that idea yesterday for next year. For the people who are just a little too far away to drive in one day. I don't think it's a bad idea. I know what Abby is saying but I can see the other side too. More time to get ready and to make sure that we are relaxed and less time in the trailer at one time for the horses. But next year is a long way away and who knows what will change before then.

I think if we had stayed in the Park for any longer we would have been caught up in a HUGE traffic jam. I'm glad we beat feet when we did.
People can horse camp here at my house, or if there are too many, we could use my club's grounds with barns, kitchen, outhouses, and such. I don't know that I am on the way for anyone going to Manhattan, though.

Actually the camping sounds like a great idea for people who are coming from faaaar faaaarrr away and need to rest the day or night before somewhere fairly close after the long trip. You guys who live nearby can just zip on home but we surely can't.

What about Fairhill for those of you coming from the South. It would be close enough (about 3 hrs) from New York for you to get back and set up still in daylight. I think some people from the board camped there this year, they can tell us if they liked the set up. I think they rent stalls.

If we are still here and fairly coherent next year ;-) we could put some horses up (probaby 15-20) for a day or two but do not have hookups.plenty of room to park trailers if you want to grab a hotel for the night..right above the MD line..

that would be great Sherri, we could leave in convoy. How about you, don't you want to go. Believe me, other than giving birth, I have not been on such a natural high.

that is what I said to my husband on the phone at the end of the parade,
I said
" O My God I have NEVER in my life been in something so awesome, it was more exciting then anything I ever ever did, even giving birth"
Edurne

Giving birth topped this, but I wanted to share the excitement with others who would understand it. Ethel was shellshocked at the noise. But how incredible to ride horses in that situation. I now understand why Lori and others want to show. I imagine its the same excitement my friends have when they come back from the hunt. So for those of us who are never going to show, because either we have no interest or do not have the dollars to support the show lifestyle this is an opportunity like no other. I don't care how experienced any of you are in riding parades, there can be nothing that compares to this.

We REAAAALLLY want to go next year. What a fabulous experience!
I've always wanted to ride one of our horses in Central Park also. Maybe we can get some of those cute policemen to take on on a guided horse tour of it????
Speaking of a natural high - the LARGO RACE at nationals. I know people said the rules weren't followed and so on but believe me - it was a real rush! The stands were filled with people standing up, screaming and yelling and waving things and our guys did sooo well. It was amazing but I'm sure nothing like this parade!
Next - how about Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade!!! And what's the really huge one in Chicago???

The screaming of the crowd cannot even compare to this parade. 8-) It was like a rock concert for real. The largo race happened in a matter of moments. That parade high seems to last forever.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong....for people coming (driving) from SC & FL, then of course its smart to camp prior to the parade, but TRUST ME, if you can deal with hauling for 4.5 - 5 hrs, then bite down and take it like a man...or, ah woman...whatever floats your boat

I haven't camped at Fair Hill, but I've been there and its very very nice. i could go for that just to knock 2 hours off travel time for me! Its easy to get to also, just a few miles off of 95.

Let me just say this about the parade, I have never been so high in my life.
I've been feeling so proud and puffed up over my horse, my chest, and my abilities to make you laugh, that I have lost 7 lbs., gotten a part time job, and scraped the crust off of my Mary Kay!

I have room also for people to camp out - and am about 3 hours from NYC.......sorry Barb, but I think it's a little easier to get to my place than yours!
Easy off/on the NYS Thruway.....
Also, if I have enough advance notice, I ~may~ be able to find stall space at the barn I used to board at in Peekskill, that is only @1 hour drive into Manhattan - and there are trails to ride on too!

Edurne - I will be cleaning house and pet sitting for a lovely couple with a summer home on a lake near me. The lady is a retired teacher who has a great love of animals, kids, and, gardening. Her husband was a history major, and is in poor health. I didn't really catch him name, or any other details. He was a man, and therefore, of little consequence.
During the interview, I don't know who was sucking up more, me or them. They laughed at everything I said, offered me cookies & garden sproutings, then told me I was free to bring my son while I was working there. They practically stroked my curls and tweaked my cheeks.
For my part, I was on my best behavior. I did not cuss, I was polite, and I refrained from vomitting the bile that rose to my throat as we toured the house and I got a whiff of the moth balls. Yup, they make me gack, too. :(
I must have made a good impression because they are entrusting me with their beloved A'more, a 2 year old mini schnauzer, girl doggy. They are dropping her off here tomorrow morning, and I am dog sitting until 4:00.
Lisa - your house may be more convienient, but I still think that there are people who would be more than happy to drive a little longer and hang in Barbwire's Bunkhouse.

Already had in mind to bring a Largo Paso or "andadura" in Spanish. I've been told from PRs arriving recently in U.S. that Andadura has surpassed Fino. A full speed andadura (I've never been to Nationals to compare) on 5th ave? We could highlight that Paso as we did Alfonsina ( a face to face lineup with Alfonsina (fino) crossing in the middle while we acknowledged with a tip of the hat. A slow moving Fino first then a full speed Andadura after. Who would get a louder response? I dare say the Andadura (largo Paso) would. In PR Finos are owned by people with $$ (in most cases) thus the trend towards Andadura.
Re Macy's or other Parades.... they would be good ONLY for exposure, that's it. We've been to non-PR parades and their great. When you drive home you don't have the..... you don't feel appreciated much. I mean people see the Paso, some laugh "look at that horse how funny he moves"... no screaming fans, some clapping... it would be for exposure only, which we DO need.
We come out every year in the 3rd largest ST Pats Parade (Holyoke,MA) and it's fun. Everyone is out watching, lots of people. In this Irish Parade we have become the favorite group of the announcer, Jack O'Neill. But, to be honest, at the end I feel like I just did another parade...then again, we DO need exposure.

You know, if you're going to be 'hooked' on parading, you may as well do it up good! We always paraded in a choice of the Paso Fino show costume or a Flamenco Dress. Now those Flamenco Rididng Dresses from Spain can be bought in all colors and sizes on E-bay for under $100. That's pretty cheap when you consider the lace in the states would cost more then that.
You'll be bidding against Andalusian riders doing the same thing. LOL

Toddler & Rider used to carry those saddle pads.Check and see if they still do...................
