I'll JUMP on this one.
I love my Paso Finos too. And I love my PP mare, and her obnoxious, outrageous, and rebellious naughty colt.
I don't think there is a prettier breed, smoother breed, or more exciting breed.
But most importantly, I don't think there is a more sensitive breed. I love the relationship I can have with these horses.

I love my horses too.
When I go out to the barn, I check my problems at the gate.
I don't remember work, obligations, nothing.
Amazing animals.
I can sit there and just watching them eat grass and I feel tranquility.
The type of tranquility I am unable to find anywhere else.
When they look at me, we exchange a silent language, that only we can understand.
Yes, I love my horses.
And, I think they love me too.

I love it that my old cranky gelding Desi came in from grazing in the yard tonight and positioned himself next to me as close as he possibly could. And just stayed like that. I felt honored. I think he really loves me and shows me sometimes with nice gestures like that.

I love my PF's and PP-x's too!
I love the fact that at 11:30 at nigth when I get home from work they hear my truck pull into the yard and they all whinner at me.
I love that if any one of them are outside they come to the gate/s looking for my attention. It's such a wonderful feeling of being wanted... :D

Since the vet visit last month, Q has sometimes nickered at me in the mornings when I step out the back door. I feel very priviledged to have her attention in that manner.
It is like a "good morning!". ...or it is 'get-in-here-and-give-me-my-pellets!'... ;)
I've never been around a breed of horse that was so interested in what the people were doing and would rather be with the people than doing the 'usual' horse things.

I love to walk into the barn in the morning a say "Good morning" and the horses talk back. Some times they don't respond the first time and I have to say "Good morning, anyone???" again and then they respond. They are so funny.

That's funny. I walk out in the morning and call "Good Morning Paso Finos!" They all whinny...I love it.
I love it even more because we are surrounded by QH's and Paints that could care less what their people do. I know my neighbors hear our daily greetings. LOL
I love it when I call Rosie and she raises her head, whinnies, and comes running. I love it even more because it takes Cowboy Mike an hour to catch his yearling.
So yes, I love my Paso Finos.

Hey Judy,
I was in the same boat, until I came back to horses a few years ago.
This is a fever, once you get it, horse fever will never let you go.
I expanded my business to do work in the next county. I kid you not, my work occupied every wake hour. I didn't have a life and I needed a release badly.
What I really needed was a "horse fix" once in a while.
So, I went to a barn, introduced myself to the trainer/owner and asked if I could feed her Arabian horses some carrotts. I'd groom for them. I walk hot horses after their workout. I clipped and preped horses prior to a show. And loved every second of it.
I remember telling one of my non-horse friends what I was up to and she thought I was completely nuts !!! Okay, I won't argue.

There's nothing more relaxing than listening to horses eat.
I loved it so much when a really sour woman we boarded with complained that she couldn't catch our horses to put them up at night. And walked out there and they came RUNNING to us for scratches and conversation!
I love it when we drive up and we hear everyone calling to us.
I loved it when our most hyper, princess and the pea mare held as still as if she were frozen when the saddle twisted and Kyle landed under her belly on the ground. And after he rested up she carried him out at a walk like she was on egg shells the whole way to the trailer - this mare who NEVER walks.
I love to look out and see all the guys lying down taking their midmorning nap in the sun.
I love it when after a neighborhood parade our girls held so still for the little kids to pet them and yell "I like the brown one I like the white one No I like the brown one I LIKE the WHITE ONE"
I love it when Chinook is bored and flaps her lips.
I love it when SloughP gets out of the fence and Chinook TELLS on him!

We have had "The Girls" here at our house for two whole weeks now. Their corral is a ways from the house, but right next to the driveway. Since I have four kids, I do a lot of driving past the corral. The horses whinny EVERY TIME I drive by. If I can't hear them whinny I can still tell that they are. Lots of times I'll roll down the window and say "Hi Girls!" as I go past, and they follow the car a little ways.
So cute!

After having to trim a particularly difficult bunch of horses this evening, I'll tell you what, I was sure glad to get home and just look at my gang. They are not perfect, and neither am I, but worrying about my safety is just not much of an issue with this crew.
I love horses in general, and I'm so glad I have found a "job" that is nuthin but horses. There is a triumphant peace each time I leave a horse feeling better than it did an hour ago. However that just doesn't quite match getting totally blissed out with a good play/training session with one of my own. Its therapy, Paso therapy, and it goes straight to the core.

I love everything about them. Each has their own personality and have characteristics that make them different and special.
I love the way it feels when I can go out to the field and catch Jaspers attention from a long ways off....hold up my lead rope/halter... and have him run to me to get him out without even saying a word. We started that so we could sneak him out without the others heading for the gate as well. I know he loves me because he "chose me" instead of the other way around.
I think it is funny to watch Primero in all his fury throw his tantrums because I understand what is happening now. He is so demanding and has little emotional control. When he gets mad he will stomp his foot and then sometimes chase his tail.. a strange tantrum to say the least but amusing.
I love the way Patrick is so intelligent and caring. He was the one who was opening the stall doors and letting the others out.. the one who watched us get down and go under a fence when he was a small foal and decided to get down on his knees and try the same thing. He is so jealous and prefers to be the first one worked in the evenings. I actually feel guilty when I dont work him first from the looks he gives me when I am with Jasper.
I love the way El Viento cares for his herd. How he nickers to his mares when he cant see them... How he finos to show off around them... and then lays his head on their shoulders..
I love the way Dama throws her looks at the other mares and its funny to watch her kick that foot at the other one when they are walking off a ways.. as if to get the last word in ... and how Chica her filly watches for me to come out of the other stall at grooming time.. waiting for her turn...
I feel honored that Josephina trusts me even though she cant see and waits for me to get her in by the gate in the evenings...how she nudges her foal and loves it though she will never see it..
I love to watch Roza and Josie J strut their stuff.. with their tails curved out.. and their heads held high in the evening air... showing their joy and happiness...
I love their horsey perfume smell.. giving them horse hugs.. scratching them in just the right place and watching that lip quiver... riding them bareback across the field...rubbing them while they are lying down.. the joy of touching a newborn foal for the first time.. my grandsons smile when he sees a horse..
I could go on all day... buts thats just a few of the things I love.. life wouldnt be the same without them.. :D
Jasper giving me that look...

Yup, I love going over to see my guys. They see me coming with the halter and they all crowd up at the gait like "pick me, pick me" - Most of the time I get Phoebe to work with her, but when I get one of the others they are soooo excited.
Sometimes I just go in the pasture and hang out. It is fun just to watch them be horses.
Yesterday Kevin was with me and he went over to pet Phoebe. He was amazed at how soft and smooth she is. His comment was that he would love to lay on her and watch TV. I informed him that he would not be making my horse into a rug! ;-)

I'll jump on here,
This breed has been my saving grace so to speakas a child I had a morgan that though I loved could beat the tar out of you at a trot, daddy got sick horse had to go "Heart break" got another horse a few yrs later a TB Gelding fresh off the track was drugged when I went to ride him, suckered into him I was 17 first time I road him he nearly killed me got a QH Halter horse I nearly broke my legs to get him to trot 10 paces.
Finally got a good horse and Arab loved him did everty thing with him every thing was going well I've found a breed that worked for me then in 94 had a car wreck and really hurt my back Doc said would never ride again  ,met a lady that had Pasos she told me al about the smooth ride and after about a yr I gave one a try and though painful at first I could ride again. and now look at me  All because of a Paso Stud at the time and guess what I bought him thats my Vince,
Prueba is my greeter she greets me no matter where she is and hears or sees me at the show,at the, vet while I'm taking the dog out even when she already has food

Life is GREAT!!
Took Rosie and Zar on a trail ride, Rosie did her first water crossing (you have to realize this is THE DESERT and water crossings are hard to find. Anyway, it took a bit of coaxing, but then she did it, so we went back and forth 6-8 times. Great.
Also rode her in Judi's arena and she gaited wonderfully! I was sOOO happy. :D We've only riden at home before and life is dull here and unexciting. But at Judi's there were LOTS of horses, lots of excitiment, so she really collected up nice and gaited her little heart out, all on her own. I'm not ready to collect her with reins until she's ready, which won't be for a while. But just nice to know she has the gait in her and it's SMOOOOOOOTH. :D :D :D And she also left the other horses and behaved to circle the arena all alone.
Oh yeah, she also loaded in the trailer both times...what a sweetie.
I was VERY proud of her.

I love my Paso's because they helped me get over my fear of riding after being thrown and breaking things on a BIG quarter horse. I found quite by accident a wonderful PF who not only got me back into riding but has also done the same for many others. He is not the best gaited and certainly not show qualtiy but his nick name is Reiny the rehabilitator. To know him is to love him!!!!

Ok I just have to jump in for a sec. Erin that's an awsome head shot. That's the kind of pic I want to get of Tino. LOL Some day. My friend is gonna come out and try to get one for me soon.
I love my Tino for his crazy moments when he's so ready to go and doesn't want to wait for anyone! But even better is the moment when he finally after 7 or 8 years will let me come up to him in the pasture with no halter or lead and let me touch him and pat him all over and then takes his head and rests it over my shoulder and puts his head down for me to touch his ears and forhead. I was crying standing out in the paddock. I couldn't believe he was finally letting me do this.

I love to put my nose on their velvety nose and feel the softness and smell the horsey smell.
I love being in the barn with all the stalls having fresh shavings, sweet hay and the horses munching grain. That is the most peaceful time.
I love when they whinny to me as I drive up.
I love when they turn from what they are doing to come see me, and beg for scratches.
I love when a young horse suprises you with their excellent behavior out in public.
I love largoing next to the spotted saddle horses & tennessee walkers and seeing the riders shock that not only can we keep up, we can pass.
I love my ex showhorse, even though she's a bit wired. I love her long mane flying as her feet fly.
I LOVE galloping on a fast horse.
I love watching Caliente & Nieve pick stall door latches so they can escape, only to turn around & come back so they are SURE I saw what they did.
I love watching Flash & ChaChi stir up trouble with "the old guys". I love watching them run across the pasture for the sheer joy of running.
I love the fact that since ChaChi's been in a bigger pasture he has been largoing (never a corto). And he is FASTTTTTT.
I Love fuzzy coats in winter, short shinny coats in summer.
Most of all I love the way just looking at them makes me happy!

You know Paula, there is so much truth to that. It always amazes me how much I enjoy watching the horses eat contendedly after feeding. Something about that says "all is right with the world" when you can do and enjoy such a simple thing. I really enjoy feeding my animals.
And i agree! nothing sweeter than putting horses away for the night. by the time you're done, fingers are frozen, nose is cold, toes are numb. then you close the barn door and you're out of the howling wind, the below zero doesn't seem nearly as bad when you hear all the ponies munching away on grain and hay and you know they're content for the night.
And then your fingers, nose and toes don't seem to really matter.

What a great thread.
I've really enjoyed reading all the posts and seeing the pics. Even got a little teary here and there.
I love so many things about my pasos I don't know where to start.
I love the sweet caretaker side of my Pia, as feisty an alpha mare as she is in the herd... she is sweet as pie for each and every rider... extra sweet for the kids and the beginners.
I love starting the 3 year-olds and just feel so blessed by all the things they'll do for me. They are so smart and so willing. I always wonder what makes them just go along with the programme and do what they are asked? That first trail ride on Lula and Sofia this year left me almost giddy with amazement - so brave, so fun, so giving... it gives me great joy.
I love looking at the foals, Mango and Fanny, booting around in the pasture. There is just no sweeter sight for me than watching foals play at full throttle. I love seeing Mango's mom, Finola just glowing golden in the field... unaware how she astonishes me with her beauty.
I love everything about my goofy stallion, Mercenario ('Mercy'). How he calls to me when he sees me coming. How he'll do anything for a treat. How he'll fino his heart out when I ask, but sticks to walking when there are kids on his back. How he loves to play in the lake, sticking his head under water and blowing bubbles. How he gives hugs. And how he can be so happy in the show ring and happy on the trails... happy just to be doing stuff with me.
I love walking in the barn and hearing greetings and
I also love leaving the barn swept and smelling like fresh shavings and sounding like happy munchers.
It's all good....

Life IS good for my babies (horses!). And they make it better for me.
My 25 y.o. mustang is finally able to relax after some not-so-nice times in his life. Now he's pampered and happy, though still quite the grouch!
My 8 y.o. gelding had turned out to be the kind of horse people dream of. In fact, I've had 2 such people drive up my driveway and offer $$$ for him. I say "no way"! He's truly a gem.
My soon-to-be PF yearling is a brat but my husband likes her and she's his so all's good there.
And then there's my baby...6 y.o. PF mare that I currently lease. The most difficult horse I've ever had. And the one that makes it most worthwhile. I went to catch her today to give her a bath. I had a handful of peppermints. She snubbed me totally so I gave them to the others and started to leave. It was hot, I was tired - the bath idea was just a passing fancy. She met me at the gate and let me put the halter on with no treats in hand. I never know exactly what she'll do but for some reason I trust her more than any of the others. She's the one who makes me keep the farm.
I've also learned a lot about relationships by watching my horses. My 8 y.o. gelding and my mare are partners every step of the way. My husband and I watch them and promise to follow their example in our marriage. Things such as watch each other's back, share food, let the other one know when you've found a good thing and so on. The night the mare gave birth, the gelding never left her side. She had a retained placenta and the whole time the vet was there, the gelding was nose to nose with her. And HE's the one who did ALL the discipline on the baby.
I especially love watching them stand nose to tail to keep the flies off each other. There's so much we can learn from them.

I love it when I say hi girls and they whinney at me.
I love it when my girls come to love on me and get attention after they are done eating.
I love how Rosa could care less about what the other two girls are doing or where they are when i'm in the pasture or at the fence.
I love it when Chica and Rosa come for lovin and Cola comes all the way up to get in on it too,Cola usually won't come all the way up because she just knows you'll catch her if she does.
I loved it when Chica would run with me and stay so close to me when i'd sit on the ground in the pasture for hours that i'd have to tell her don't step on me and she never did but was that close and never went away from me(when Cola and Rosa were here and Chica was at the pasture till Rosa got old enough and in the safety zone)
I love it when Chica hugs me back.
I love it that Chica and Rosa trust me so much that Chica has let me sit on the ground with her while she layed down a few times and Rosa doesn't get up till I get to her and that both feel comfortable enough to roll with me standing right there with them in the pasture.
I love it when i'm grooming Cola and she brings her head down low for me and that she trusts me enough to let me pick up her back feet wich is a HUGE deal to her.
I love that Cola was extremely good about going right to the tie up spot to be cought and excellent for me to milk her to help her take care of Rosa when she was born.
I love how responsive all my girls are.
I just love my girls, all of them, and love how they love me too.

Princessa always runs around in circles when I come home (that means she gets to go out to the pasture). She puts her head down and lets me put her muzzle on so she can go out. She's really sweet and quiet. THEN she tears out of the corral at a full gallop to go meet the boys!
Listo digs a hole in the dirt in the morning until he gets his grain (and whinnies, of course - 'Hurry up, you slow-poke human!')
Chex follows me around like a puppy dog and wants to 'help' with everything - drives me nuts sometimes
The other boys just quietly nicker and wait their turns. They're old now, and just happy to have an easy life where they get ridden maybe once a month in the arena by little 8 y/o girls.
I love all of them! Thanks for the post, Cindy!

I love baby snorts.
I love the promise of the future and the potential I see in a new baby.
I love baby turds that fall thru the pick
I love how the gentlest mare becomes a Mama, and will protect her baby.
I love cleanig stalls in the winter and hearing the poopcicles hit the wheelbarrow
I love a good horse. It doesn't have to be pretty, just good a something. Babysitting a kid, jumping, barrels just bringing joy to it's people.
I love the differences between the breeds, and the similarity.

I think I can make you happy. Want to move in next door? I have lots of poopcicles in the winter. ;-)
