After reading the new posts on Steph's thread, I realized, I may be the only one at the PR parade next year with a helmet on - you can't pay me enough not to! Hard ground is bad enough, I have no intention of finding out what pavement feels like. I reckon I can find or make a helmet cover that has the PR flag on it, yeah?
Anyone care to join me?

colors of the pr flag. State Line has pretty ones with a bow on the front (for us girlie types) but they only come in bi colors. We could use the red & white or blue & white.

I always wear a helmet and feel naked without it! The only time I haven't worn a helmet is when showing, and the ground is soft there! I would love to have a helmet cover with the PR flag on it!

Yes I wear mine even when I am in the ring, the only time I didn't ride with have one on, is when I was at the cutting clinic, and with out it I felt not as relaxed as I am when wearing one. As for warm up we had to do alot of loping around the arena, I really wish I had brought it with me. But everything turned out okay.

Well, don't I just feel stupid.I have a brand new helmet AND vest and a green horse and have never so much as tried the helmet or vest on.As calm as she is everytime i've thought about wearing them I talk myself right out of it thinking nah I don't need it.After reading Stephs post yesterday I looked for my helmet and couldn't find it,found the vest but not the helmet.Guess I better keep looking.I only bought them incase Chica had alot of brio once going into training and there certainly turned out to be no problem there LOL.Your friend,Moniece

i have a new one i intend to start wearing mine, a alabama trail rider member died last month, she was getting on her horse and he moved out before she got in the saddle, she fell back and hit the back of her head and died the next day from a brain stem injury. that realy got to me.
you could have patches made of the AmericanPasoFino.com logo and attach them to he bought covers. and you could have stickers made to go on the helmets. what every you decide i want one

Hmmmm. I bet we could get solid color covers, Red, White, or Blue, and then put on PR flags on the front and APF logo on the back? I know the flags can be had at flag and banner shops, any size you like. Someone remind me after Christmas that I am volunteering to round up flags for the helmets!
I'm so glad I won't be alone *warm fuzzy feelin*

Troxel makes a red white and blue star spangled helmet. And yes we wear helmets even in shows. We have two of the Troxels and they are pretty nice looking and cheap.

I'm so glad you chimed in Motor Gypsies, because I was wondering this morning whether you made exceptions for Parades. :D

I like the idea of the red white and blue helmets, but that would require all the helmet hounds to buy new ones... If others are interested enough for this, we could go with the PR flag on top idea too, gotta have that PR flag!

You know, if we used helmet covers and had AmericanPasoFinos.com patches that we could velcro, then we could attach them to whatever helmet cover we're using for a variety of events. 8-)

I believe that Jose said no "advertising" for the PR parade. We are riding under the "Caballos del Paso" banner.

I know the subject started out about the New York parade - But what about other parades and events?
Our little group did 14 parades/events last year. And we've already done 7 parades/events so far this year - with the fall/winter stuff yet to come. In fact, we were just invited two weeks ago to participate in another parade the first weekend of December. (We're pretty much booked up for the entire month of December now.)
And from what I read on this BB, it looks like there are plenty of others participating in parades/events across the country.
Just food for thought ...
I took a look at the helmet covers and the blue/white and red/white look like they would be easy easy easy to convert to a patriotic look. Whoever it was that posted that link - Thank you. I'm going to try to talk our group into doing that rather than using the white top hats (although those top hats are pretty spiffy). :D

I don't know...I still think you all should dress to the nines for the parade...Official show costume and Flamenco dresses. These really do showcase the Spanish heritage so well. Our Pasos are always the "People's Choice" winners in the big parade, partially because of the gait, but the other part is the beautiful presentation with dresses and tux's.
Maybe put the flag on the banner up front? Or some people could carry flags.

Maybe we can have two groups - one dressed formally and one gone PR Motif. As much as I'd love to get into a pretty dress, it would look silly with a helmet. (Notice I did not say the helmet would look silly with a dress.. ;-) ) After all, the crowd, if I understand right, was quite eager to see more flag presence - we owe them that too. If it were all about Spanish/Latino heritage, I could see everyone going formal, but it is, after all, all about Puerto Rico first.

I agree with you, Carol. That is our experience too.
These horses are so extraordinary in so many ways, we feel that they are worth us dressing our best for them.
ErinC
06-25-2006, 03:33 PM
yes, they want to see the horse of their island,
One comment Jose Posted that somone said "" "Tell them... I know you will tell them that I thank them for loving our horse". ""
them being us, not from PR,,"los gringos"....
They want to see their flag,,,,I was asked why we were not carrying one.
they did not seem to mind that us, some of us, "los gringos".... were at THEIR parade!
so if we are going to go and we are going to celebrate with them, we should represent their culture.
We should dress how each of us feels it works best for ourselves, and our horses. and look good.

Well, I think we should all wear what we want as long as it looks neat. Dressing up in show attire and fancy dresses, IMO, should be left up to the individual. I had a hard enough time finding something to wear when I found out there were no jeans or t-shirts allowed, I don't think I would even bother going if it was required to be in "costume." I looked at the parade as a come as you are party.

I'm not into the spanish flamenco type of thing....do the Puerto Ricans themselves care about that? What do Puerto Ricans wear in Puerto Rico when they do a Parade. I'm sure they don't have helmets.
I think we need an Equine Choreographer. Perhaps some of us can dress in simple attire based on PR flag colors, or our horses decorated as such, we can carry flags, and the beautiful ones can ride in the middle. Or we can show case them the way that Jose suggested.
Those of us who were there will attest and confirm that the show stealer was Amante.... it didn't matter how he was dressed or that his rider looked spiffy and gorgeous. Everyone's eyes were on him and how they wanted to touch him. Even Lori will tell us that he might not have been the most "fino" horse there but he won the people's hearts.
