Trinket has been hosed down a few times and really hating it. Even just lightly from toes upwards. Well today she and Liberty (the ASB filly) got baths.

At first I got the snorting and a bit of pulling back. All the while talking and keeping a hand on her and she got to the point she tollerated it, not quite loving it yet but a huge step forward. Then she got dried and showsheened her mane and tail and she looked so pretty.

She kept trying to rub herself on Troy and I couldn't help laughing and laughing. She did NOT liek being wet. But being it was over 100 degrees we figured it would feel good and what better time to get her used to it, when it feels good in the heat.

Clipped a few pics of her.

Here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v92/JennLM/Trinket/062206/)

It's hard to see but she has brown, grey, black all in her coat, same with her mane and tail. Still has the striped legs and back. Her legs look a bit blacker to me but who knows.

Most of the pics her ears are every which way. Poor girl, the Damien Omen child from next door kept leaping out his window to scare the horses. (I cannot WAIT to move!!) So Troy was in front talkling to her, I was on her side and she did great! She never spooked. This is the same spot she used to do crazy circles being away from the others. She just stood there. Even got bored and cocked a hip and stood there.

She is very cute! She will learn to like the baths, and it's especially fun to roll and get all dirty again!

wow...she sure does have a LOT of color! Lots of colors. So pretty and unique. Love the frosting in her mane.

Keep bathing...you'll see, before long she'll be standing by the hose wiating for her bath. The heat is a great trainer.

Oh yea..mine always roll afterwards. LOL

She is beautiful!! Mine like to roll too. So, I usually let them eat yard grass while they're drying.

What's funny is when I hose them down they all roll, both of them after this bath have not rolled. I wonder why? The other girl soaks her front feet in her water all day and splashes to have fun.

I hope Trinket starts to like water because since it's so hot here I like to go out now I'd love to go out a few times a day to cool them down.

I love all her colors and hope one color decides to dominate and go that way LOL She even got used to me cleaning out her mud boogies in her nose. Poor girl I kept scrubbing and scrubbing the brown patches thinking it was poo or dirt when Troy finally pipped up saying she is that color so stop hehehe

I could tell she was scared when I was spraying her and wanted to run and get out of there but we kept touching her and talking to her and she seemed to do better.

Does she look too skinny or too fat? I have never had one this young (she is 14 months old) and want to make sure she is looking healthy. What about her muscles, do they look developed correctly for her age?

I guess I worry and want to make sure she is getting what she needs to develope correctly as much as we can in our situation.

thanks = )

Judy, whew.. she is my first Paso and as I said earlier the youngest horse I have ever had. I am totally paranoid and don't want to do anything wrong in raising her. She has the sweetest spirit I never want to crush.

I take her for walks, give her cuddle time, make her use her brain and try not to spoil the crud out of her.

When I started feeding her I had to guestimate on how much and I am glad I got it right.

With everyone's help and guidance here, hopefully I will continue to keep doing the right things with her and she turns into a great horse.

Jenn, something I hooked up for my horses a few years ago when we had a very hot summer (looks like I'll have to do it again) is a mister. You can pay a lot for the horse ones, but they have nice cheap ones at Wal-mart that you just hook a hose to. I ran drip irrigation line and used garden misters, total cost was about $20 to do 4 stalls.

Carol, good idea, we had planned on doing that for the dogs when we move had never thought about it for the horses. It could easily be done at the new place. The way we have the stalls now, everyone on far corners, of the property would be hard. We saw the misting systems at the store yesterday for like $43, not bad. This property has very few water spickets. We drag buckets back for the woofers and the horses a loooooong hose. I guess until then I just keep hosing them down. The other 2 love it. Trinket just never had anyhandling or dealt with anything before. The flies just started getting really bad so yesterdays spritz of showsheen was a good test for the fly spray they get today.

I bet Trinket would get over her water issue pretty darn fast wiht the misters hehehehe

I am very glad I found this board or I would be pulling my hair out not knowing what to do with her.
