What good, sweet baby girls! I love their little halters, too. I hope this helps them. How many times do you have to go back for treatments?

When we took off their "clothes" they were really cold in the barn and if they went down we did not want them on the cold floor so the vet said bring them in here..it was so nice and WARM....they were good little children..they got serum plasma a liter ($250 liter) same stuff you give for low IGg failure of passive transferr.

They look so sweet, adorable and very well-behaved!
Looks left, then right and asks quietly...."did they poo inside?"
How will this plasma help them? I know babies with little/no colostrum have to have this, what does it do for them?

No poo or pee..but when they got "dressed" and in the stall while we were waiting to check temps etc they each peed and pood...
They may have colostrum problems too...they had low low total protein..this is "boost" them up...Well see
hope they pull thru! they are looking great though

Here's wishing you the best with these girls. Once you get them and they are sick, if you are like me {and you are] you'll spend whatever $$$ necessary to get them healthy without blinking an eye. You fight for their life and a chance for life for them just like you would a human.
I bought Clara a minature Dahshund "Alex" and he had to have back surgery twice at $1500 and $1900 and after the $1900 brought him home on Monday night and he died in Clara's arms on Wed morning. But we had him for 9 yrs and if another $1900 would have saved him we would have done that too. Stupid I guess, but they have got to have a chance!!!!
Good go Appy, proud of you.
I don't know how you are keeping your sanity at this point, shelley but these girls are very lucky to have you on their side.

This is their last chance lol..I say that..I could have bought another Vence with what I spent on purchasing them and their vet bills so far..after this I may send them back or I dont know what if this is not the last thing...they go back monday am..for another $200 then I make serious decisions..I hope they will be fine now...they are fine today but heck they seemed fine before the bloodwork...keeping my fingers crossed.

Boy Shelley what a life! I'm finally getting to read all this. here's a pep talk of sorts:
One of the best indicators IMO is how a foal LOOKS. If they are acting fairly normal, they are over the hump. Of course their protien would be low after dealing with ulcers. Assuming those ulcers are now history, and we know the protien issue is being dealt with, they should be fine. The plasma is a jump start!
Are you using Pediasorb EQ? Its listed as for use for diarrhea in foals, but the real action is to heal the intestinal wall. If you aren't ask you vet about it. Here is a link:

It doesn't actually stop diarrhea, it promotes the tissue healing.

Coreen..no I am not using it I emailed the link to my vet...Tekis blood protein was 2.9 and Diosos was 3.4 ....so you really think the plasma was the way to go??

I was going to suggest, that she try the amino acid(protein), l-glutamine, but I see, that it's in Pediasorb EQ. I know that l-glutamine can help rebuilding the gastrointestinal tract in humans, better on an empty stomach. The person showed improvement overnight. In three days, spicy food even was tolerated. This was better results than expected. Damage in the stomach from medication was suspect it that case.

Now that I've been thinking about this, I would go to the health food store and get some glutamine powder if they were my babies. I wouldn't wait for a shipment of the other product to start. It may be very beneficial to include the other nutrients, too.
You've already done plenty though! The babies sound as though they are in better shape than the person was. That definitely could bare on my thinking.
Our bodies contain more glutamine than any other amino acid. I would imagine it's similar in other mammals. It's a source of the quick-growing cells in the GI tract.
Below are links to a short and long explaination. On the big page, it's mentioned in a few places. If you don't want to read the whole thing, at least scan it for mention of gastro-intestinal conditions.

I hope your babies are fine now. They are so lucky to have you care for them. Good Luck.
