These horses were working about a mile from us today. Beautiful horses. The black stallion on the left was used (AI) for breeding a Paso Fino mare in Georgia. I thought that was interesting.

The paso percheron cross is very interesting. Would that possibly produce a large foal difficult for a paso mare to birth successfully? Just wondering..... Maybe draft paso crosses would be the answer to the bigger riders needing bigger horses dilema, especially if they gait! My husband would love that! Nice pics, thanks for sharing!

Beautiful pictures and beautiful horses Trudy. Isn't that awesome to see some still working their fields the old fashioned way. It takes a little longer then a tractor, no AC, no stereo. LOL

first mower i don't recognize (not a McCormic, they seem to be the most commen) but i have one like the john deer a "BIG no. 4" and two McCormic no. 7's, i always wanted to work the fields with horses or mules but life runs too fast to keep up, so when it's hay makin time and a tractor is handy and a few usable implements, that's what gets used. I did use a very old dump rake this time that i picked up when looking for horse equipment years ago. it picks up hay a lot cleaner than the old side rake that's lost too many tines. i got a new idea loose hay loader i used several years when i was makin hay for only 1 horse. then i used it for one batch a couple years ago just to get the hay up before rain when the bailer destroyed itself, well, almost, took a day of welding later on to fix it. When I was looking, the old horse equipment was cheap if and when it could be found, i got the john deer mower for $70 from the scrap yard, one no.7 for $65 from behind an antique store, the loose loader was $35 from a local fella. we can put the fun and satisfaction back into farmin if we do it right, but it does seem to take a little different approch than along time ago when subsistance farming was the norm.

Trudy - is the big black stallion's name "Herbie" or Modoc Herbert?
