Well, that's odd, I scored 91.23%. :-? I thought I had to be smarter than ed. Hmmm? How am I going to lure him into my trap if he is smarter than me?

Extremely telling! :-?
I see more and more people writing using 'then' for 'than', and WAY too many 'apostrophe s', which is a pet peeve of mine! Some of those were simple spelling tests, but it seems there are a lot of folks that don't know the meaning of effect and affect or to and too.

i think that comes from living in rural florida, kathy.
in today's local paper, a reporter wrote,"the rabid fox snuck up on the woman from behind and bit her in the leg."

96.49%...not just grammer, spelling.

Just some help for those who would like to do better on such a test...and note one thing, spelling and grammer are LEARNED skills. All it takes is practice. You can go to a bookstore and buy a nice Style manual and read it. You'll be surprised how much you'll learn.

There only refers to location.
They're is short for "They are"
Their is possessive.. their car, their hair, etc.

His and Hers are also possesive and require no apostraphe's.

It's is short of "it is."
Its is possesive and requires no apsotraphe's.

Insure is only for insurance
Ensure is to make sure
You insure a car, you ensure the car runs.

Two is the number
Too is inclusive, I want to go too, or too much
To is all other uses

Congratulations has a 't' not a 'd' in it.

I can't remember what else was on the test....other's can pipe in.

I scored 94.74%.
I got 2 reds and a yellow. Does the yellow mean it's only half wrong?

I always use 'I' but I know that 'me' is used when there's a preposition in the sentence? But, there wasn't so that confused me.

"I" and "me" can really be confusing... ;-)

She and I ran.... She ran; I ran.

She gave a welcome to her and me........
She gave a welcome to her; She gave a welcome to me.

Most of the problems happen with compound subjects or objects of prepositions... It's actually easy - just use what would be correct if it was a single subject or object.....

TMI - I'm supposed to be done w/ Language Arts

I know, LOL. My son always wants help with this stuff - so you're never done it seems. How about was and were, like in your sentence. If the word 'if' is in the sentence, isn't the correct word 'were'?

See, now we'll all be watching for this stuff
:D

just a language test, there's a lot of "smarts" that won't show up in that one. I did terrible in english classes, just couldn't get some of it. i got 87 on that one though. I could have the smarts to put together a hybred electric car with fuel processing from the scrap yard, or make a truck run on firewood with a few barrols and odds and ends stuck together, or make a wireless remote control for a solar water pump out of junk tv parts, and it wouldn't help me get a better score. some english professor would get 100% and yet faced with the problems i deal with he'd be clueless. glad there's variety in people, no one person could ever be good at everything.

Street smarts and common sense are invaluable!
