OMG, how handsome! I just love his white eyelashes. A funny story about that cross...

I was at the Equine Affaire a few years ago and I was chatting with an older couple that has their Friesian stallion there. We started talking about what a shame it was that people were breeding anything and everything with Friesians just to make a buck. I noted that they even breed them to Apps and the old guy said, "Yeah they call 'em Crapaloosas, I believe."

Wow :!:

Do you think he's going to keep that color?
Those white eye lashes have me wondering.

They were talking about that...they think the mare has a grey gene. She hasn't turned, but...

Not all apps that have the eyelashes and light color around their eyes grey. Appaloosa genetics are a wild and wonderous thing.

We were just talking the other day about this at Dolly's barn - her owner breeds Friesians. I couldn't quite imagine the cross, and that colt looks awesome, I love his pattern!

He is pertiful. Looks like a pepper and salt. I just love his markings. The way his is standing in the picture reminds me of the trojan horse I sitting on my entertainment center.

It's a shame that once he is under saddle so much of that COOL marking will be hidden!

I was told recently that an app with the grey gene can no longer be registered with the association. Does anyone know if there is a DNA test for the grey gene???

Very interesting, Linda. I'm not familar with Apps at all. Thank you.

Back in my Arab days, I was taught that the white eye lashes specifically (not the white around the eye), is usually nature's way of telling you the eventual color.

Linda, is this colt a weanling?
I'd love to see him as a yearling plus.

How interesting motorgypsy.
How strange, I don't understand.
Sweetie, do you know why they don't want them?

Only guessing, but I'd think they'd not want the gray gene because of the effect on color. Color/ markings can be a big selling point in that breed.

Graying would eliminate alot of color the horses were born with.

A friend of mine bred his Appy mare to a Paint stud and got a spectacular bay pinto filly with an Appy blanket on her butt. People would actually stop in the middle of the road to just to look at her. She had stunning and vivid color/ markings
As a yearling, she severely faded out and was obvious going to end up as gray/white as her dam. An Appy blanket on a gray/white horse, just isn't as 'colorful'........

Thank you Fuego. Yes, logical

Barb,
That was a wonderful example of crapaloosa.
Thanks to you, we can call them something other than just piggy.

Very cool! He better be good to ride though because he will stand out very much at a show. Everyone is commenting on the great color but he is wonderful conformation!

I don't know if it is just my computer, but the photo looks "doctored" to me. Not all of it, just some of it.

Yes it is because they end up completely white from the grey gene.
