Yesterday, Tony and I took the girls to Beaufort to spend a few days with my dad at his friend's place on the Intracoastal Waterway. My sister also lives in Beaufort, so they can visit with her too. They will have a great few days fishing, swimming and exploring Shackleford Banks in search of wild horses.
Also, the Pepsi Americas' Sail 2006 is in the Beaufort and Morehead City ports until July 5. As we were leaving yesterday, we stopped to take a picture of the Cisne Branco. Here's the picture I took and the ships info from the Americas' Sail site.

Cisne Branco
Year Built: 1999
Rig Type: Square rigged clipper
Overall Length: 249 feet
Home Port: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Compass Rose
In 2000, the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil, a square rigged training vessel for the Brazilian Navy was introduced. Cisne Branco (White Swan) is a sister ship of the Stad Amsterdam.
It was a sight to behold, and if any of you are anywhere near Beaufort, NC, it would be worth the trip to visit. We are going to pick the girls up on Tuesday and may purchase tickets to go aboard the ships.

Isn't it gorgeous? I would have loved to have been there when it came into port under sail. I hope we can see some of them under sail on Tuesday.

Oh and here is a picture of one of my favorite signs going to Beaufort. This is in Kinston, NC. (Yes, I am often easily amused.) Hopefully you can see why I find it amusing even though it is a tad fuzzy, since we didn't stop to get gas!

How beautiful. I saw them sail into Bermuda during the bi-centenial, and then up into New York City. They are certainly impressive. Thanks for posting. I love my armchair travel.

Can you image all of us on that boat, sipping beautiful looking cocktails, enjoying the water and talking Pasos?

Now that sounds like fun. I'd like a margarita on the rocks, and I want to be able to taste the tequila in it!

Where is the server guy?
Blameitonbrio
07-02-2006, 07:42 PM
I can bring Tony; he is a magician with a blender. However, if enough of us charter this boat, we will need more servers, because the blender can keep one pretty busy!
My sister, her husband and my mother got to sail on a boat yesterday that gave them a tour of all the tall ships. It was arranged through Duke Marine Lab, where my brother-in-law works. They had a huge fancy buffet and open bar. We all should have been there.

I will let him know. He is training for a marathon, so I could try to get some pics of him in his running clothes.
I have had fantasies of dressing him up like this, so maybe this will be the time to try it.

How much is it there? I thought ours was expensive. Maybe being an hour from a port makes a difference; although it is a small port and I am pretty sure petroleum doesn't come in there.

Ohhh, I'd just love for him to be my master and commander.

No this thread has certainly wondered afar! LOL
I love the picture of the ship, beautiful. I had the GREAT fortune of being in Baltimore right before the rededication of the Statue of Liberty. The harbor was FULL of tall ships from all over the world, and the city full of the sailors. It really was a sight.
BTW Jenn, I hate to tell you this, but our regular is $2.78 too. I'm not sure why gas in Nevada is so much more then Utah's...but I always gas up in St. George when I go that way.

The ship is gorgeous! I suspect many of the crew were also - but I understand they averaged 5 feet 3 inches tall.
My grandfather was captain of a three masted schooner and sailed it around the horn of Africa. My grandmother sailed with him. How I would love to be able to travel back in time to meet them.

That sign is funny - they must serve beans there?
Our gas is $2.99/$3.09. It's the tourist season, doncha know. It should go up again right before the Sturgis Rally in August. It won't go down until September :(
That ship is beautiful. It looks so old-fashioned, even though it's new. It's kind of cool that they haven't changed the looks of them in hundereds of years. I'm sure everything is very hi-tech though.
