On and off all day I have heard the 5 year old boy next door calling his dog. His mother told me the dog hasn't been seen since 7 PM last night. It really breaks my heart to hear the boy's little voice calling out and crying. :(
I don't know why people think that just because they live in the country they can let their dogs run free. This whole thing was so preventable. Poor kid.
Please send out postive vibes that "Gracie" will come home safe and sound soon, and Anthony can stop calling out.

Oh, that is sad. I hope if the dog doesn't come home, they let the boy grieve for a healthy period and THEN go get a new puppy. Parents often replace a pet too soon and I think it leaves a bad message.
I sure hope they find his dog though.

Erin, the parents have been taking turns cruising the neighborhood and I helped them look earlier this morning when I went for my walk. I was going to ride out on Amante, but it hasn't worked out. First, I had to wait on my friend to come and put a shoe back on him for me, then the weather got nasty hot. I will go out late this afternoon to look for her.
Carol, I hope they just get the boy a hamster, instead of another dog. Truth be told, I'm not too fond of Gracie, she just barks and barks and barks all day long. They leave her outside all the time, and she wants to go in the house.

Hamster sounds like a good choice.
I hope Gracie makes it back. Poor kid.

Amen to that, Barb...it always amazes me when people think it's inhumane to keep their dogs confined and at home. I think it's inhumane to let them roam and perhaps hit by a car, or in this area, shot or eaten by coyotes... :(
Hope he finds his dog but I vote for the hamster too!

All our neighbors let their dogs (and now puppies) run loose. They antagonize ours all day and have gone after the horses. We are hte only ones who keep our dogs behind fences which is really sad. All the kids learn that this way of keeping your dogs (as well as chaining/tying) is ok.
Poor kid, hope he finds his dog or hope someone nice who keeps the dog safe from harm finds him.

Well, I spent 3 hours in the woods looking for the dog, still no sign of her. The neighbors think she was scared off by fireworks. Gracie is one of those hyper German Shepherds that doesn't like loud noises. I had one just like her years ago, and she could go nuts during storms and fireworks. Hopfeully, Gracie will come back after tonight.

My dogs are afraid of gunshots, fireworks and thunder. We had a fireworks display that I could have seen from the porch but I was inside comforting my dogs. Too many dogs are missing after the fourth because of the noise, you would think they would have the sense to put their dogs in a safe place during this time of year!

Speaking of fireworks, I have a stupid dog owner story that trumps this one. We were at the local festival and fireworks show last night. We are sitting in our chairs and the fireworks start. Right after the first blasts a Jack Rusel goes tearing by us as fast as she can. Stupid woman let her out of the car just as the fireworks went off. The show lasted at least 20 minutes and I doubt the dog stopped. She is most likely 2 counties over by now. People are SOOO stupid. I could not even watch the show for thinking aobut that poor, scared dog. Who is now a poor, scared and lost dog.

We get to 'enjoy' the stupidity twice. Today is the 4th, and the Mormons celebrate again on the 24th. It seems every few years we end up with a lost and terrified dog. Last year it was a Pom. I'm just glad my idiot neighbors have had their horses on their weeds, so minimal fire danger this year - at least here. I am sure that half of Utah will be on fire by midnight. DUH!

I was outside yesterday, and heard my neighbor calling Gracie again. I walked over and said, "You still haven't found her?" She says, yes, they found her 5 miles down the road from their home, 4 days after she disappeared. Then she says they "spanked her good" after they found her, but she still wanders. She didn't understand why, even though Gracie has been hit by a car twice, that she still insists on going in the road. She said the dog must be "retarded or something."
These people should be shot!

Barb...please find Gracie, then a new home for her!!! Poor thing. Unfortunately we all know dogs tied up for years on end with no companionship....or...left to run loose and oh well if he/she gets hit.

Dumbasses........ Spanking them does no good but make them start to fear you. Tying them leads to aggressional tendencies.
I honestly hope that dog runs away and finds a nice person to take it in.

I wonder why she runs away? Duh....
The people must be retarded or something. I hope Gracie finds a new home out there and your neighbors get their kid a Beanie Baby instead.
