View Full Version : Our Trinket-Traded

Since we found out she will not get big enough for us, with a heavy heart we have decided to trade her or sell her. We would prefer a trade for a bigger Paso. A heavy boned 14.3 or preferably 15 hand solid Paso.
Sweet temperaments like Trinket necessary = )

It was hard making this decision since she was exactly what we were looking for but the biggest she will be is 14.1 and most likely smaller.
Of course they will have to love her like we do ;-)
She is so beautiful to me too.
If anyone you know is coming to Vegas......

Are you sure she's gray??? I've never seen them gray at a year old yet. Perhaps is she a blue roan??? Color experts help please...if so, you may not want to trade her as you might get a pretty nice price for her. JMO
She's beautiful...I wish I could have them all...Terry's Mila and Tres, Trinket...Carol's Bruiser...hehe...

14 H would be big enough for me....she is so nice...
Carol..I have NEVER had a baby that grayed....so if Jr has his new coat coming in around his eyes chestnut (he is 1 mo) he could still gray??? I thought they started with the roaning on their first shed?

Carol, her color has been a few topics of conversation.
She does have bars on her legs and a dorsal stripe.
Her Sire is grey:
http://personal.bgsu.edu/~fayed/guardianpage.html
If you go to the pics of his offspring, she is the second baby right under the appy..
Her dam's pic is here. Cameo is on the right. Lady who has her now decided she doesn't want to part with her much to the dismay of her husband lol Says her mom has the smoothest gait she has ever felt.:

That's what I'm saying...Shelley and Jenn...I've never seen a gray gray(verb...haha) at a year...usually it takes them until they're eight or ten to reach the color that this baby is now. My Ms. T, who will gray out to be like Vence, is only graying in spots now, and she's three...from a distance she still looks black. But the sire is surely a gray...so who knows??? That's why I'm asking color experts...where's Terry Wallace when you need her...ha?

Vence is only 7 and I saw pics as a 3 yr old and he was gray then too...

I did see this quote on Paso Pedigree:
"The way to tell a roan from a grey(both color modifiers can occur on ANY color)is that a grey's head will always be lighter than its body(til it turns COMPLETELY white), and a roan ALWAYS has a darker head, is lightest in the flank. In a foal, you may see the roan right away, or just a sprinkling on the flanks of a few white hairs....but the legs are pastel and light like other colors.
In a grey foal, the babycoat will have more intense color, and that color can be seen right down to the foot, its legs wont be the pale pastel silver or cream of non-grey foals."
This is the link to the convo... here (http://www.pasopedigree.com/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2840&whichpage=4)

Hmm interesting it seems this Fantasia del Rosa was somewhat familiar to me. Trinket has a sibling to that horse (one of the pics of roans in that convo on Paso Pedigree) on her Dam's side. So roans run in her line.
Terry did say this on that same thread:
"For roans, one parent must be roan... takes a roan to "make" a roan. "
So unless one of her parents is a roan, she can't be? But what if the parent carries the roan gene? This color stuff is very confusing.

she looks like she is graying to me.
I had a colt born once out of 2 gray parents (Belmonte x Cortesia que tal) ....he was born chestnut, but on his foal shedding he was already a medium light shade of gray. On yours, her dun base coat is just light, but you can see her graying on her face clearly. Roans don't usually get white hairs there. They keep the dark face. She does have a gray sire (I've seen him..he is very gray)...and her dam is ?

If one parent is roan and passes roan and the other parent is gray and passes gray - you'll have a very 'interesting' time deciding on color....
(Old Chinese curse: May you live an 'interesting' life...)
I hope your color search isn't _too_ 'interesting'! ;-)

Yes..she is going gray...that can happen in six months (heck..in Arabs it can happen in three or four months!) Carol....depends on the line of horses...
HOWEVER...technically she IS dun, and will always have dun factor...problem is...she has 50% chance of passing the gray gene to any of her offspring. To try and sell her as "dun" will have most buyers expecting to SEE a dun, not a dun going gray...its kind of like when a pinto has gray gene...technically and genetically...it IS pinto...however, most people buying pintos want to SEE pinto and don't want any introduction of gray into their herds.
Roans have DARK heads....no gray on the face....no gray on the legs below the knees & hocks...

I think it would be worse for her to continue to bond more and more with me if she won't be a size we can ride. I want to see her grow and be loved and able to love with someone who would not put a strain on her back. I have never had to worry about this before and will always put an animal before my own happiness. I need 4 ridable horses by next year and 2 soon as I can. I'd love to have 5-6 horses 2 being babies but unless I win that lotto or my business takes off, no can do.
Like I said I had no clue my folks would take a serious interest in wanting to ride with us. But hey, that's fine with me.

I'd say that Gray trumps Roan and the color should be listed as gray because eventually the gray will add to the roan hairs and turn the horse entirely gray, covering whatever base color (buckskin) and other color modifiers (roan) she had.
You could note that while she is gray, she is also dun, with cream (isn't she buckskin?) that carries the roan gene and she could pass any/all to her foals.

Heidi...I'm thinking she has leg bars...though I cannot see them in that particular photo...that would make her dun. Doesn't she..or did she...have leg bars?
Gray "trumps" any color... you can have a roan go gray also, but there are no roans involved here.
I have seen very few roan Paso Finos...but the one I saw in Colorado was really spectacular...a filly...bay roan and rabicano tail to boot!

Baby was born chestnut, first shedding went black/roan. She was gray at two and white by 10. I had done a web page of the stages, but it went away when Qwest sold their Internet service.
I think both Trinket's parents are gray, and she will gray. Gray is a modifier of whatever the basecoat is. In her case the basecoat is dun.
Too bad she's not a gelding. I have a friend looking for a nice young gray gelding. I'll send her the information anyway.

Yes Terry, she has leg bars.
I love her daddy's dapple gray color, her mom they still insist is a Buckskin. (We can see she is not)
I'll just keep calling her gray. Troy is completely bummed about it. I think he had a bigger crush on her then I thought.
My mom is afraid of most horses but I got her out yesterday and mom kept petting her. Trinket had this thing for one of mom's boobs lol I know mom will love this breed if I can find the right ones for us.
Thanks Carol, :D

She is well built for sure. I spent the morning brushing out her mane and tail, picking her feet and cuddling. The whole time her dinner was just sitting there outside the fence waiting. She was NOT too fond of the flyspray. Can't keep her clean for anything. She is not fond of baths. Can't clean her stall without getting hugged by her either.
Yesterday, we clipped a few long lines on her halter and did some turns and stuff for 5 minutes then let her play around. She did great for her first time.
I only do training stuff 5 minutes or so at a time. Not to train her, but to get her used to things and acclimate her so it will be less stressful and easier on her when she does get some serious training going.
With one long line she will move out ahead of you, with 2 she was a bit confused but by the ttime we finished she was getting it.
I will be very sad to see her go since she is such a sweetie, but I know whomever takes her will have fallen in love the second they met. My mom who is afraid of most horses came and pet her and loved her up.
She catches on pretty quick to most anything. You can tell the difference when she is just not getting it or does not seem happy about a situation.

I continue to work with her a few times a week making sure not to overdo it. Today she got down the verbal cue of back. I just point and ask her to and away she goes.
Just moved her to the new place and she seems to like it and having fun running around.
Had a few lookers but no sure bets so she is still for trade or for sale.

We trade up this weekend for a Palomino. Yes Troy will end up with 2 of them LOL
I'll take pics this weekend. They happened to be driving through an hour from us so will save us a good 18 hrs in driving, yeah!
The pic I have his mane is rubbed off in an area so he looks funny.

I doubt he is itching. It looks like he has been sticking it through aluminum pipe panels by the look of the gray marks all over his neck. Q's was rubbed out from poking her head through smooth wire.

Moniece,
Me too  I'd rather her go to someone here. She has such a huge whiny for you even if you only saw her 5 minutes ago. I'll miss that.
And yes the mane being gone is from sticking his head through trying to reach hay on the other side of his stall at his "trainers". The poor owners saw that and about passed out.

Oh, I like his bloodlines. Mom is double Volare on top. He ought to be nicely gaited. Little bit of weight, little bit of mane...he's gonna be pretty!
Is he still a stallion? 4 white stockings?

Linda, I saw that too but they said his feet are nice. I will be closely inspecting him before anything happens. I think he was just standing funny. (I hope that was it) If anything they told me is untrue I will just turn right around with Trinket.
Yes, he is a stallion still. They say he is pretty mellow and easy to handle. Guess I will see LOL Our trainer likes to keep them until about 4 ungelded unless they become an issue or hard to handle. And yes then a snip snip will be in order.
