Is it from laying down?

It's from lying down. The only way to help it is softer ground.

Indi gets one on her right hip - from banging the wall when she is in season.
There is a product that is really good for these kinds of sores:
http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?PGGUID=d01cb227-fe5c-432d-ae5e-cade03ff5189 Derma-Gel forms a protective barrier, you have to out it on once or twice a day as its not permanent, this is one of the best thins I've found for pressure or rub sores.

Chinook has one too on one hip. I'm going to hit it with wonderdust tomorrow to try to get it sealed up. She probably gets it scratching on fences posts and things.
