It has been so blazing hot here, it is just awful. Plus, we've had high humidity, which is unusual for us.

I was wondering is anyone uses misters to help keep their horses cool? Or, what other ideas do you have besides providing shade, which I have, and hosing them off.

Makes me wish I were going to Las Vegas, where all events will take place in air conditioned comfort!

Lori, you can make a really cheap mister system...go to the gardening department and get the the 1/2" drip irrigation tubing, a pressure reducer, a timer, and enough mister fittings for your purpose (all together, less then $20) and hook it up. Then start it for your horses every day around 1 pm and let it run 3 hours or so...when it is over 100.

Pretty cheap. Walmart also has misters on curling tubes for about $11 each.

Either way is a lot cheaper then the kind they make for horses.

My son-in-law uses a mister for his big draft cross. She is a non-sweater and it really seems to help. We live in NE FL. It's HOT!
